Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Well Cottage stands on a quiet country lane in the tiny South Dorset hamlet of Throop. Like its immediate next door neighbour, The Owl Box (H324), it is an ancient dwelling, Grade II listed and built of cob, brick and thatch.
Newly refurbished in 2008, Well Cottage still looks and feels like a much older dwelling and retains much of its original charm - large inglenook fireplace with bread oven in the sitting room, original beams (NB low headroom in places) and charmingly uneven floors upstairs. Approached by a garden path leading to the rear entrance, the cottage has an attractive garden with lawn and shrubs. The three bedrooms are arranged on the ground and first floor, allowing guests - up to a maximum of 4 - flexibility for sleeping arrangements. Please note that there are small changes of level when you enter the cottage.

The Dorset region
Very much a small rural retreat near the end of the Piddle Valley, Well Cottage is within very easy driving distance of Dorset's World Heritage, Jurassic coast with beaches at Lulworth Cove, Ringstead Bay and Kimmeridge only about 10 miles away and the Isle of Purbeck (Corfe Castle, Swanage, Studland Bay) a little further.
This corner of Dorset is ideal for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers. It is also blessed with interesting and unusual visitor attractions, Athelhampton (stately home), The Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum (trace the beginnings of the Trade Union Movement), Thomas Hardy's Cottage (N.T), Cloud's Hill (home of 'Lawrence of Arabia'), Monkey World (sanctuary for primates) and the Bovington Tank Musuem all being within a 10 miles radius.
