The Powys/Brecon Beacons region

The grassy, heather-clad mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park have been created by nearly eight millennia of human activity.

Today, this is a fantastic place for an activity holiday, with superb walking, mountain biking and horse riding trails, caves, forests and a historic canal – plus characterful towns, pubs, farmers markets and Michelin-starred restaurants.

Mountains and moorlands, standing stones and castles, high waterfalls and vibrant communities, the Brecon Beacons National Park has so much to offer visitors whether you are planning an activity-packed holiday, or a relaxing break.

The National Park was established in 1957 and covers approximately 520 square miles of south/mid Wales. It has the tallest mountain in southern Britain, Pen y Fan at 886m.

Brecon

The quiet hamlet of Llanfrynach is nestled in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Within a short walk of the front door, you can stroll directly onto the Peaks and enjoy views of the famous Pen Y Fan or walk to the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal and explore the towpaths or hire a boat to experience the canal from the water.

Enjoy the abundance of nature right outside your door while you reconnect with family and friends, and take life at a slower pace. The village is surrounded by sheep and cattle farms - in sheep shearing season, you can often catch a glimpse of the shearers at work.

The village has an award winning pub serving local produce either formally in the restaurant or at the bar, in addition to a wide variety of other pubs and restaurants within a short distance away.

The village is located just 3 miles from the market town of Brecon, where all amenities are available, including supermarkets, shops and the local museum.

Llanfrynach also has the one and only 'library in a phone box'... perfect if you need a book to read whilst enjoying the tranquility of the village.

As well as being located on the famous 'Taff Trail' for cyclists, a full range of activities are within easy reach, such as bike hire, horse-riding, boat hire and a full range of options at the activity centre at Llangorse Lake.
