The Powys region
Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.
The town of Brecon, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park has Georgian and Jacobean architecture, a cathedral, museums, a theatre, a cinema, shops, restaurants and pubs. The stunning Brecon Beacons National Park is a haven for walkers and cyclists, with breathtaking countryside, waterfalls and caves. Also with the National Park are market towns, castles, and monuments, plus relaxing activities, such as pony trekking, and a ride on the Brecon steam railway. Within driving distance is the town of Hay-on-Wye with its many book and antique shops, plus the towns of Abergavenny and Builth Wells are well worth exploring. Brecon is an ideal base from which to explore the area.
