The refurbishment as been carried out to a high standard and is now ready for use.

The development has aimed to keep the character of the original building whilst providing modern and eco-friendly levels of insulation, warmth, comfort and accommodation making it suitable for year round use.

The dining area faces south west and has a large full height window looking out onto a private patio and decking area which are for your sole use and quite a sun trap.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a two ring ceramic hob, combination microwave oven, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, toaster and electric kettle as well as all the normal utensils, pots and pans etc.

There are two 2' 6” single beds that can be zipped together to create a King sized double making the accommodation suitable for both singles and couples. There is room in the living area for a travel cot (not supplied) but no other beds are provided.

There is a settee in the living area, a TV with Freeview and a "smart" DVD/Blue Ray player giving access to features such as facebook, iPlayer etc. WiFi is available.

Heating is provided by by efficient electric convector heaters. The full height window will also provide a source of warmth in the winter on sunny days.

The owners provide a welcome pack of fresh milk, home made bread, tea and coffee.

There is a shed available for storing bikes, surf boards and wet suits with an outside tap for rinsing equipment off.

The garden to The Old Bakery is in three distinct levels with The Garden Room in the middle section which is largely screened from the rest of the garden by fencing, shrubs and trees to ensure privacy from B&B guests.

The top section comprises a patio at the back of the main house and grass lawn. B&B guests may use this area, and only this area. During the school holidays we serve home-made cream teas to the public on the patio and you are of course very welcome to partake!

The bottom section is used solely by the owners who keep their chickens there. Please be aware that the owners need to pass through the middle section to access their part of the garden. Please also be aware that the owners have a two year old dog. Bobby is very friendly and loves company but if you are not keen on dogs, please let the owners know and they will do their best to minimise any contact with you!

The Devon region

North Devon is a fantastic area to take a holiday break at any time of the year and Georgeham is ideally located to take advantage of everything the region has to offer. Georgeham is a delightful Devon village with a strong sense of community and the place where Henry Williamson wrote "Tarka The Otter". Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just inland from Croyde and Putsborough, you will be close to miles of golden sand, rocky coves, amazing surf, and the coastal path with stunning views. Inland also has its own hidden corners with delightful wooded valleys, rivers and walks.

To whet your appetite, go to David's photography web site with many images of Georgeham and North Devon.

Georgeham itself has everything a village needs to thrive - an excellent shop and Post Office, two great pubs within easy walking distance, and a vibrant parish church.

You can enjoy surfing, kite surfing, kayaking, swimming, walking, biking, coasteering, rock climbing (indoors and on the cliffs), horse riding, golf, nature trails or simply lazing on the beach making sand castles. There are boat trips to Lundy Island, gardens, museums, National Trust properties, family activity centres, go-carting, off-road centres, leisure centres, and much more.- the opportunities are endless!

We are just a mile and a half from the South West Coastal Path, the Tarka Trail, and National Cycle Network Route 27 which passes through Georgeham.

Nearby Beaches:

- Croyde is one of the UK's top surfing beaches. The centre of Croyde is about 1.5 miles down the road and it is as further 0.5 mile to the beach.

- Putsborough Beach is just 1.5 miles away offering two miles of wide sandy beach as far as Woolavombe.

- Barricane and Grunda are two smaller beaches just beyond Woolacombe on the way to Mort Point, another lovely headland.

- Saunton Sands is over 4 miles of wide sandy beach backed by the extensive Braunton Burows sand dunes and leading to the isolated and atmospheric Crow Point on the Taw estuary. 2 miles to the nearest car park by road via Croyde, or an energetic walk over the hills.

Georgeham Amenities:

The village car park where you can leave your car is right opposite and free.

The Georgeham Stores and Post Office is right next door and well stocked.

There are two very friendly pubs with excellent food within very easy walking distance, The Kings Arms and The Rock

There are two thriving churches: St Georges Parish Church is just a minute's walk away, and Croyde Baptist is a mile down the road.

The local garage can carry out repairs.

Other areas of interest

- Baggy Point is the headland between Croyde and Putsborough with cliffs and caves at the end. Owned by the National Trust, there is a level and easy walk to the end, and the more adventurous can enjoy a longer and less populated circular walk. Enjoy views out to Lundy Island on the hozrizon and a cream tea back at the car park.

- Braunton Burrows is the largest sand dune system in England and Britain's first UNESCO biosphere reserve.

- Exmoor is about 30 min drive with its beautiful moorland, wooded valleys and rivers

- Braunton, Barnstaple and Ilfracombe all have a range of shops, eating places and leisure facilities.

"The perfect retreat to unwind, relax, and recharge batteries, whilst enjoying all the adventure and romance of Devon."

I enjoyed a fantastic week at The Old Bakery Garden Room in August 2014, with my twelve year old son. Although very compact, the accommodation was modern and very comfortable. The size of the accommod… More
