The Transylvania region

Brasov is situated in Transylvania region.

Transylvania is home to some of Europe's best-preserved medieval towns, most notably Brasov, featuring Old Saxon architecture and citadel ruins; Sibiu with its cobblestone streets and pastel-colored houses, and Sighisoara, adorned with a hilltop citadel, secret passageways and a 14th century clock tower. Tiny shops offer antiques and fine hand-made products by local artisans and artists.

Visitors to Transylvania will also encounter stunning castles such Bran, near Brasov, - a Gothic fairy-tale structure, often associated with 15th century Walachian Prince Vlad Tepes, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. While the connection with Vlad is tenuous, the deep bond of local villagers with the legend is not.

In close proximity to Brasov and Bran are the fortified churches at Harman, with its massive 13th Saxon towers, and Prejmer, the largest fortified church in Southeastern Europe. The 15th-century Corvinesti Castle, the most beautiful in Transylvania, located nearby Hunedoara, has a sumptuous Knights Hall – that can be used for functions or parties, as well as towers and buttresses reminiscent of the medieval times.

Transylvania's multi-ethnic heritage (including German and Hungarian ) is delightfully apparent in the folk costumes, architecture, cuisine, music and festivals.

Colorful centuries-old traditions are alive and well in the small villages of Transylvania. People here still make a living at such time-honored occupations as shepherds, weavers, blacksmiths and carpenters.

Brasov

If you want to explore Transylvania but also the rest of Romania, the best place to stay is Brasov.

Brasov City is situated in the middle of the country and you can arrive easily everywhere.

In Brasov you can visit the old town with Black Church, First Romanian School, the fortress, the old citadel walls and bastions etc. In the neighborhood you can find Dracula's Castle – 30 km, Rasnov Fortress – 17 km, Bear Sanctuary - 30 km - near Rasnov, Peles Castle – Sinaia – 45 km, Sighisoara - 117 km.

At 17 km to Brasov it is Poiana Brasov mountain resort where you can try the best ski in Romania.

Brasov area is also visited for mountain biking, tracking or climbing. Here you can find very beautiful tracks, easy but also difficult ones (on Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Ciucas Mountains)

A very nice town near Brasov is also Sibiu. If you decide to visit it, on your way, if you are traveling by car, I recommend you to stop for a day trip on Transfagarasan Road - a very nice highway in the mountain - till 2034 m. The road is open just in the summer time, June-October, but in the winter time you can arrive by lift. If you like the new experiments, in the spring time you can also sleep there in the ice hotel. :)

I'm looking forward to meeting you and to tell you interesting things about Brasov - my native town.

"Highly recommended!"

I live in the north of Italy and for our first trip to Romania (me and my boyfriend and another couple) chose Raluca's premise as our temporary home. Everything in the description of the apartment is correct and I can just confirm - Raluca is a very friendly and hospitable person, she tried to support us in all aspects. We spent a week there and enjoyed Brasov and this part of Romania very much. You'll find nice castles, beautiful mountains, good organ concerts in churches among others. We rented a car, which gave us mobility - I suppose we have visited all the castles nearby, Pelesh, Sigishoara, Bran and many other cities and towns. This part of country is really worth seeing! So I would strongly recommend the premise, not only for its location and good service, but also for the convenient position. In conclusion, only positive feedback. Thanks for a very pleasant stay!
Che dire.. davvero consigliato.
