Home description
500 years old yet the house is absolutely marvellous. Restored to perfection. The massive beams give you an idea of the age but the modern kitchen and furnishings bring you back to the 21st century. The views from the property are stunning especially from the pool area.
The sitting room is comfortable and spacious with a satellite TV offering BBC programs. There is a DVD player and CD. The enormous open fire makes you wish it was cold enough to light it - it would seem so very warm and cozy. The house is centrally heated so it makes it perfect for late season bookings. Just imagine that fire- wow!
The modern American style fully fitted kitchen has a serving hatch through to the dining area which has the usual large dining table.
The spacious bedrooms are a double and two twin-bedded rooms all with ample hanging space. There are two toilets and a very large shower room. In all, comfortable and relaxing.
Front of house (on very quiet road)
Large garden with pool
Living room looking towards huge fireplace

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The whole year is mild in Aquitaine. The 2,200 sunshine hours per year make the region similar to the Mediterranean. Along with rainfall that is well distributed over the year, this sunshine is one of the elements which favour vine-growing in Aquitaine.
MAISON LANNET is located equidistant (10 kms) from the towns of Nontron and Brantome giving access to shops, restaurants, medical and other services. Nontron to the north has a range of shops, banks, post office and two large Supermarkets. Brantome to the South is referred to as the Venice of the Dordogne. A picturesque town with shops and numerous excellent restaurants.
Tennis is in Nontron and St Pardoux and you can find Go Karting in Teyac near Javerlac, which is one of the next towns from Nontron. Teyac offers an excellent track with fast machines. Loved by teenagers.
Water sports, Go Karting, Fishing, tennis, Horse riding, Hiking and Golf are all activities which are available, in around Nontron. Canoeing is a great fun day out for everyone. You can choose to start at just about any point of the Dronne River. There are several collection points where you can pick up your canoe and start you adventure. Be prepared for getting wet though, as you will probably end up getting soaked, a hot summer's day is the best time for this. Canoeing is an activity which all the family can enjoy as you go through Brantôme under the bridges and over the small waterfalls. It is very safe and can be as strenuous as you want to make it. You can stop when you like leaving the canoes at a drop point where you can be taken by minibus back to where you started.
There are three leisure lakes in the area with restaurants and bars. 1. St. Estephe a great facility with a beach 2. The Grand Lac (on the road from St. Mathieu to Maeval) 3. St. Mathieu (follow signpost to the lake when you approach St. Mathieu). Throughout the summer months, each village has a Fete and there are often many festivals in Nontron
Brantome / La Chapelle Montmoreau area
Within easy reach of Maison Lannet there is a number of interesting places which will delight you. The town of Nontron is some 10 km north and is set among attractive lakes that provide ideal picnic sites. It stands high up on a rock fortified by massive ramparts and has a picturesque 18th century chateau.
This is a perfect place for children as it houses a lively museum of dolls, models, games and toys. Also here are the satirical puppets from the Bebete TV show (like the English Splitting Image).
A short drive in the opposite direction there is the medieval town of Brantome where it is a delight to walk around the remarkable and ancient abbey founded by Charlemagne (742-814). With its soaring campanile this is one of the most elegant medieval and Renaissance buildings in the Dordogne, complete with caves used by the monks as kitchens and cellars.
The town sits on a bend of the river Dronne and a stroll along the riverside is an unforgettable experience. Loads of brilliant restaurants complete the experience – you will come back. There are also boats trips available.
About 10 km down the river you come to the pretty village of Bourdeilles where there are two chateaux of different periods built on a fortified hill – a medieval fortress (13th – 14th century) and a Renaissance palace (16th) with a remarkable collection of furniture. On the river Dronne you can rent a canoe
Not very far away is the town of Villars and a short distance north of the town are the caves with some impressive stalactites and paintings more than 17,000 years old. It was discovered in 1953 and is the largest underground network in the Perigord. The underground river has hollowed out huge chambers connected to each other by galleries. A great €5 worth including a commentary. THIS IS A MUST FOR A VISIT.
Nearby is the Chateau de Puyguilhem in a village of the same name. It is a fascinating structure way out in the woods a Renaissance masterpiece that fell into disrepair but was carefully restored after WW2 It contains some suburb Aubasson tapestries and fine furniture and several fireplaces that are carved with exceptional beauty.
You must visit the little town of Riberac and is renowned for its Friday market – the best in the area ad well worth a visit.
Going a little further east just over the Charente border is Aubeterre sur Dronne Its charming narrow streets wind through white stone houses and ancient buildings. Built in the shape of an amphitheatre this former stronghold is classified as one of France’s prettiest villages. The most outstanding and impressive monument in Aubeterrre is the underground church of St John. Carved entirely out of rock the main naïve reaches a height of 20 m.
There is fishing and beaches at La Jemaye This is a large lake with sandy beaches, pedaloes, canoes, horse riding, picnic areas, a cafe etc. The above is just a few of the many attractions in the area. Come and see!!
How to get there
The distance from Calais is 760kms and takes about 8 hours. (Boulogne-Rouen-Le Mans-Poitiers- Angouleme). There are a number of alternative ferry companies. We have found Sea France to be very competitive. If you are prepared for a little longer drive you can use Norfolk line to Dunkirk instead of Calais. This is about 45 kms additional but if you decide to come through Paris this is no disadvantage.
By air to Bergerac or Limoges we suggest Ryanair they have a almost daily service from Stansted or East Midlands they are cheap if you book ahead. Alternatively Flybe from Exeter or Southampton or sometimes Gatwick Ryanair have just opened up Angouleme which is nearer.
Rentals cars are available from a large number of rental companies at Limoges/Bergerac. You can book Hertz through Ryanair and their rates are competitive. Europcar and Avis are also available. You are very lucky if you get the model car you book with all of them!!

Chrissy, Ian and family - London We very much enjoyed our stay-the house was comfortable, the garden and pool beautiful, the situation magnificent and the sky (day and night) wondrous.
Caroline and Ellis - Austin Texas Caroline and I have very much enjoyed our stay at Maison Lannet. Most of all it has been a true joy to meet and spend time with the prop. Ray Hart. The fabulous old house has been beautifully restored with a labour of over 30 years .Ray is a great host . Our stay was wonderful, we enjoyed walking or running Lannet lanes, sipping wine by the pool and warming ourselves by the fire in the huge fireplace
