La Noisette

About the home
La Noisette ('The Hazelnut') is a charming cottage, architect-converted from an old barn. With all the warmth of exposed mellow stone, it offers spacious living and a wonderfully light, airy kitchen and dining area. It sits in a very quiet position outside the hamlet of Mazerou, in the beautiful 'Périgord Vert' area of the north-west Dordogne region.
The cottage is comfortably furnished and fully equipped, being the owners' second home. There are two sitting-rooms, books for all tastes and ages, children's games, Sky and Freeview UK TV & Radio, a DVD library and a music system. You can, by prior arrangement, bring your (well-behaved!) dog, who will also find a bed.
Walk straight out onto the woodland path for a solitary ramble on the many paths & bridleways in the Parc Naturel (we even provide wellies, for - we hope occasional - wet days!); arrange a daily ride or lesson from the equestrian centre in the hamlet. Then off to Brantôme, perhaps, for a delicious lunch beside the river. The temptation to stay put and relax is strong- but after a few days' unwinding, there are wonderful excursions to enjoy, sights and attractions to visit. There is a bathing lake nearby and tennis in the local village (short drive to either).

Further details indoors:
The main sitting-room is spacious and homely; cool in the summer, with a wood-burning stove for autumn evenings. Equipment includes Sky and Freeview UK TV & Radio, a DVD player and an audiophile hi-fi system; simply plug in your iPod.
The second sitting-room has a desk, in case you really can't avoid doing a bit of work, and a seriously comfortable armchair for the post-lunch snooze!
The kitchen-and-dining area is spacious with cool slate tiles on the floor. Four French windows open onto the garden, facing west so you can watch the setting sun as you dine. The kitchen is very fully equipped: all usual mod cons plus blender, coffee grinder, juicer etc, and every possible utensil. The dining table comfortably seats four.
The shower-room is on the ground floor, next to the kitchen, and contains a washer-drier.
Under the old barn's original beams, the bedrooms are cosy and charming. The main bedroom offers a king-size bed, full-length mirrored wardrobe, chest-of-drawers. In the second bedroom, you'll find a 'guest bed': single with a pull-out which opens to the same size/height and can be positioned as a second single, or as a double; and a mirrored dressing table. This room is ideal for two children or a single adult.
Further details outdoors:
Grass surrounds the house on three sides. The main portion of the garden adjoins a quiet meadow; horses are the nearest neighbours. The spreading chestnut tree provides cool shade for al fresco living in hot weather. There is outdoor furniture and a barbecue is provided for guests' use. The garden is fenced on two sides. Private parking to the side of the house.
Further details
We are flexible about 'changeover day'. While Saturday or Sunday suits many, others prefer a weekday changeover, to avoid weekend traffic, ferry / tunnel queues etc. Subject to other bookings, we are happy to add extra days (see Tariff section), e.g. to make a ten-day stay. Whatever your requirements, please ask; we will always try to be as accommodating as possible.
A 'welcome pack' awaits your arrival: milk, bread, tea & coffee etc, and a bottle of wine.
Guests are requested to leave La Noisette clean and tidy. 'Normal' cleaning between lets (and mid-way in a two-week let) is included in the rent; but we reserve the right to make a charge if the house is left in an unreasonable state.
Additional cleaning is available, if required, during your stay; at a cost of £12 per hour.
Guests are welcome to bring a well-behaved dog, but strictly by prior arrangement. A modest surcharge applies. Note: please be sure that you are fully acquainted with the rules governing the re-importation of dogs to the UK, and that your dog is suitably prepared and certified. You will find details of the local vet at the house. And watch out for ticks!
Conditions
Deposit of 25% is requested at time of booking (non-refundable), balance payable in full 6 weeks before arrival.
Security deposit required, £250 (£300 if bringing a dog), normally refundable (subject to breakage / damage etc) within 2 weeks of the end of your stay; cleared funds required before beginning of stay, please. Please note: deposit refund will be made in £GBP to a UK bank, without charge. If refund to a non-UK bank is requested, it will be sent as a GBP transfer and will be converted at whatever rate applies at the time; there may be charges for which the recipient will be liable.
Electricity is included in the rental cost from June - September. There is an additional charge for wood, according to consumption.
We recommend that guests take out travel / cancellation insurance.

Enquire nowThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The Périgord region of Aquitaine, generally known simply as 'The Dordogne', needs little introduction. A region of infinite variety, it offers every form of attraction. There are fascinating châteaux to visit, Romanesque churches, beautiful towns and villages, wonderful restaurants and regional produce, markets, pre-historic caves; golf, tennis, kayaking; the list is endless!
The north-west area (Périgord Vert), where La Noisette is situated, is the lushest region; and the least crowded! Pretty St Jean de Côle, with its fine Romanesque church and château, is nearby; while enchanting Brantôme (elegantly straddling the River Dronne, hence known as the 'Venice of the Dordogne'), with its ancient abbey, its restaurants and antique shops, can be reached in about twenty minutes. Among many local attractions are the châteaux of Puyguilhem, Bourdeilles and Jumilhac-le-Grand, and the amazing, pre-historic wall paintings of the Grotte de Villars. A little further afield, visit the spiralling towns of Aubeterre and Uzerche, the châteaux of Hautefort and Coussac-Bonneval; the hill-top plateau of Mont Gargan, with stunning panoramic views, and the château and National Stud at Pompadour. Wherever you go, you are surrounded by beautiful and varied countryside.
The Brantome / St Pardoux La Riviere area
La Noisette lies 4 km from the village of Milhac de Nontron, where there is a well-stocked village shop, church, and a superb baker / pâtissier. The local town of St Pardoux la Rivière has a wider range of amenities, including banks (with cash dispensers) restaurants and an excellent supermarket with petrol station (credit card system) and car-wash.
The immediate locality forms part of the 'Parc Naturel Régional Périgord', with many marked walking routes and bridleways.
A little further afield lie the larger centres of Thiviers and Nontron, while Perigueux, Angoulême and Limoges are all easily reached (50 - 65 km). There are tennis courts at Milhac, and riding stables a few hundred yards from the house.
There is a Michelin-starred restaurant, in a wonderful riverside setting, at Champagnac-de-Belair (20 mins), and bathing lakes within easy reach.
