Cottage | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
A tranquil, private and secluded 4 bedroomed cottage and barn conversion, with swimming pool and private garden. Situated in the "Parc natural regional Perigord Limousin", Pontarnaud is about 10km from Brantome, the "Venice of the Dordogne". Enjoying a perfect blend of modern facilities and french charm, the ground floor has a unique tiled living-room, with a stone fireplace, which continues on to the outside terrace. This leads to a south-facing dining-room, one of three choices of internal eating areas. There are two east-facing bedrooms (one double and one twin) with large picture windows looking out into the garden. These two bedrooms share a bathroom with a large separate shower, bath and bidet.
The light and spacious modern kitchen and adjoining walk-in pantry have all the amenities and utensils you would expect in your own home. Off the kitchen is a very large utility room with a new washing machine and tumble dryer, with plenty of room, whatever your storage needs. On the first floor is an additional large lounge/den with full-length windows overlooking the courtyard, equipped with satellite tv, Nintendo Wii, games, DVD player and CD/Radio/iPod player.
Bedroom three is a double, leading through to bedroom four, a twin-room with a full en-suite bathroom, including shower.
The garage/games room has a table tennis table and mini snooker table.
Outside, the pretty, well-stocked private garden is bordered by formal yew and box hedges, and provides a superb environment for eating and relaxing outside. Pontarnaud is part of a very small hamlet of four houses, which also boasts a small working dairy farm.
Pontarnaud is within easy reach of beautiful towns and villages like Saint-Jean-de-Cole and Saint-Pardoux-la-Riviere, as well as ancient wonders like the caves and cave-paintings of Villars and the plentiful rivers and wildlife of the region.
This property is very flexible and ideal for either one or two families to enjoy.

About this location
The Dordogne region
The Dordogne region of south-west France is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in the country. Visit this beautiful region of France and discover the chateaux, beautiful medieval "Bastide" towns and villages, unspoiled countryside and prehistoric caves.
There are many famous sights in the Dordogne, including the Lascaux caves, the Marqueyssac gardens, medieval Sarlat and Domme, Chateau Castelnaud and the prehistoric caves in the Vezere Valley. There are also miles of rivers for canoeing and strolling alongside, and the weather is pretty good too!
Brantome is a beautiful town near the northern edge of the Dordogne department, sometimes known as the Venice of the Dordogne (some poetic licence here!) - but the town really does have a nice mix of medieval and renaissance architecture to admire. The town is classed as one of 'les Plux Beaux Detours' in France and there is a lot going on - from nautical jousting to truffle markets!
The exquisite Bourdeilles chateau is 7km to the south, on the River Dronne, and on the river Cole to the north-east of Brantome, the two attractive villages of La Chapelle-Faucher and St-Jean-de-Cole truly warrant a visit, as does the church in nearby Thiviers.
A further 10km north through the forests of northern Dordogne and you will reach the fairy-tale chateau de Jumilhac, and the southern edges of the Regional Natural Park of Perigord-Limousin.

"Fantastic house in a beautiful area"
We stayed at this house in May 2014 and really enjoyed our stay. We were a party of seven including two young children (1 and nearly 3). The house is spacious, airy and very well decorated, and it is … More

"Great for young children"
A lovely location adjacent to a dairy farm, a well provisioned hamper a nice welcoming touch. Room to spread out the 4 grand children and the pool a unexpected bonus so early in April. No shortage of interesting villages & towns to visit only a relatively short drive away, an important consideration with little ones.

"The perfect property for a relaxing holiday with every amenity you could ever want or need."
We stayed at Pontarnaud for one week.
We received full details about every aspect of the property before we set out on our travels down to exact location of replacement bulbs, which set high expectations which I am delighted to say the property more than lived up to. We arrived late evening to a wonderful welcome gift that helped us settle in and feel at home on the first night. Every thing you could need was provided down to an excellent selection of books, CDs., indoor and outdoor games.
The property although close to 3 other properties was very private with mature hedges and trees as it's boundary. It was very well maintained and decorated with an excellent layout for sharing families even though there was only two of us. The gardens were mature and well kept with the added bonus of a good sized pool.
The house was on a side road only 10 minutes drive from the beautiful town of Bramtome which has cafes, restaurants, shops, museums, canoeing on the river.
We loved everything about the property, especially it's secluded location but within minutes of Brantome. We will definitely go back and would highly recommend it to either couples or families for their holiday.
Thanks very much for the feedback, perfect guests!
