The Dordogne region
The northern Dordogne is a delightful area of southwest France, very rural and quiet, but with plenty to see and do whatever your interest. It is a well wooded area of rolling countryside that is forever green.
Warm summers and mild spring and autumns make this an ideal location for a restful holiday.
We are located halfway between Brantome, (the Venice of the Perigorde) and Riberac, a typical French market town with it's mix of cafés, restaurants and a busy market.
Bourdeilles with it's chateau and castle sitting above the river is just 15 mins. away and the river can be explored by hired canoe.
Sightly further afield are the lakes at Jemaye, the monolithic church at Aubeterre, or the caves at Villars amongst many other attractions.
Wherever you drive the quite roads and peaceful scenery are just a delight.
Small family run restaurants can be found in abundance in the towns and villages throughout the area, and a good lunch with wine for less than €13 can while away a good 2 hours on a sunny afternoon

"Superb in every way!"
From the exchange of e-mails before we went there to the warm greeting by Chris & Trevor; the immaculate state of the gite's 6 rooms; the detailed guest information; the comfortable chairs, beds, pillows, towels, etc: the level & quality of appliances & equipment; the fully equipped kitchen; the wooden balcony for outdoor meals, flat screen TV. This gite lacks for nothing & is in a quiet, undisturbed wooded setting, with myriad birds & the occasional deer & hare. Perfection! We could not have wished for more & at a most reasonable cost. Unsurprisingly, each & every entry in the Guests' book echoes these sentiments. A second visit cannot come too soon!

"JEWEL IN THE DORDOGNE"
There are so many good things to say about the Stables and the hosts Trevor and Christine that its hard to know where to start! On arrival, we were greeted warmly by the hosts along with a welcome glass of wine. We were shown around the lovely barn which has been so beautifully renovated it even encourages you to stat in and cook - a first for me on holiday! The standard of accommodation, is as my husband described it 'TOP DRAWER.' Pool is also fab and was a much needed and used facility given the heat at the time of our stay. Trevor and Christine are on hand if you need them but also manage to keep discretely at a distance and allow you to enjoy the privacy the location allows. Out and about there are wonderful walks, a chance to canoe down the Dronne river which we did and was great fun, and also a huge choice of places to visit and eat. The hosts will be happy to give you any information you need to further enjoy your stay. My only reluctance in writing this review is that they will be overwhelmed with visitors once people know just how good it is! Would really love to return in the future, and take up the offer of renting both gites, either with family or friends so that we can show off about the little jewel we found in the Dordogne. Go. You wont be disappointed..

"Beautiful Gite, wonderful holiday"
We booked both Gites for 1 week in June, my parents stayed in the Barn whilst we stayed in the Stables both Gites are beautifully presented and very comfortable. The weather was very hot and the Barn was much cooler than the Stables. The location is very rural so a car is required and the nearest supermarket is about 20 mins away. There are lovely walks nearby and we saw dear, squirrels and numerous types of birds and the neighbours have donkeys which are very friendly and love carrots! I would not hesitate to recommend these lovely Gites and Trevor and Chris are great hosts, there if you need them but otherwise they leave you alone.

"Lovely gite – lovely rural location"
The friendly, helpful owners have done a very competent and tasteful job in converting the barn into a lovely, well-equipped gite. A well-nigh perfect location, too, for those who love the countryside (if there were a local boulangerie it would be perfect, though it's only a 10 minute drive for fresh bread).

"Everything you could ever want in a gite plus kind and helpful owners always on hand."
This gite feels like a proper home not a just a holiday home. It has everything you could wish for (down to a hair-drier in each room) and all done with such style and attention to detail. Staying there in November, we particularly appreciated the efficient heating and so enjoyed curling up in front of a blazing wood-burning stove in the evenings. Our hosts were very kind and helpful but never for a moment intruded - a clever balance if you can pull it off. And the views! In short, we had wonderfully relaxing winter break and felt thoroughly spoiled. I can recommend The Barn to anyone wanting a bit of peace and quiet in the heart of this wonderful region.

"Perfect place to relax"
We have stayed in Gites all over France and The Barn comes top of our list. The property was so well planned and everything you could need had been provided. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and there were many accessible walks. We had very hot weather and really appreciated the pool.
Thank you for your comments, we have tried to make both of the Gites as high standard as we can and are so pleased when our guests appreciate them.
