Ma Petite Maison Francaise

Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 4
LAST YEAR WE DECIDED DUE TO HEALTH RELATED, PROBLEMS WE WOUDN'T BE ABLE TO RUN OUR LOVELY COTTAGE AS A HOLIDAY HOME FOR 2015. ALL IS WELL NOW, SO HAVE VERY RECENTLY TAKEN THE DECISION TO OPEN THE CALENDAR FOR BOOKINGS. SO ANYONE THAT ENQUIRED BEFORE, PLEASE ENQUIRE AGAIN.
Ma Petite Maison Francaise is a beautiful old cottage/gite, connected to the main house - La Grange. Nestled in the beautiful rural countryside of southwest France between the historic market towns of Brantome and Nontron. Ideally located in the Perigord Vert, La Grange, is situated on a 50 acre estate of parkland and woods, is the perfect rural setting for your French holiday destination and is home to the Brantome Police Horses.
Lovingly and beautifully restored by the present owners, the cottage is a delightful blend of sumptuous luxury and rustic character. Ma Petite Maison Francaise literally translated as 'my little French cottage' is connected to the main farmhouse of La Grange which is reputed to date from the 18th century where the owners are on hand 24 hours a day. The attention to detail, the ambiance created and sensitive approach to this property gives it a boutique hotel feel with the comfort of a real home and a special place to stay. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AS THIS IS AN OLD PROPERTY, THE STAIRS ARE QUITE STEEP.
Ma Petite Maison Francaise has two pretty bedrooms sleeping four people and one double bedroom which is open to the stairs and these guests must use either of the two en-suite bathrooms.. The spacious rooms have many original features typical of old French farm properties. Oak beams, shuttered windows and lime washed stone walls compliment the decoration, elegant drapes and wall tapestries. French and British antiques and artworks add the final individual touch. The bedrooms comprise two large doubles with en-suite plus a further double opening out at the top of the stairs which shares one of the other bedrooms en-suite, so four can be catered for in style, and two more making six people can be catered for if they aware of the bedroom and bathroom situation.(We would suggest that this room be used for older teenage children, as they would have to use parents bathroom or shower room. The bathrooms are equally lovely with big shower heads, towels, and pool towels.
A cosy sitting room leads through to a well stocked library and television room with games, satellite, dvd and cd players. Both rooms have woodburners and logs are supplied - handy if you want to take the chill off a cool summer's evening or essential with a hot mug of chocolate chaud in the winter. The modern, light and airy kitchen/diner is fully equipped with charming country crockery, a six ring range cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.
Internet is available.
On arrival guests are offered a generous welcome pack and a specially cooked evening meal is available if required. We'll even give you a bottle of wine to start your holiday in true French style.
IT MUST BE POINTED OUT THAT LA GRANGE AND MA PETITE MAISON FRANCAISE, IS HOME TO MANY ANIMALS INCLUDING RETIRED UK POLICE HORSES, A COUPLE OF GOATS, A FEW SHEEP, CHICKENS, DOGS AND CATS AND AS SUCH THESES ANIMALS ARE NEARBY. WE DO NOT EXPECT GUESTS TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE ANIMALS, BUT WE WELCOME PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED AND WANT TO KNOW MORE. PLEASE LOOK AT OUR WEBSITE BRANTOMEPOLICEHORSES, FOR MORE INFORMATION ON US AND WHAT WE DO AT LA GRANGE . LA GRANGE CAN EXPERIENCE A HIGH VOLUME OF OUTSIDE VISITORS ON CERTAIN DAYS, SO ALTHOUGH VISITORS ARE NOT ALLOWED, AND THE COTTAGE IS SHIELDED AND GATED BY HIGH FENCES AND PLANTING, THEY WILL BE NEARBY.
These are run as Open Afternoons and people have to book in advance. The afternoon starts with a informative talk and media presentation on how and why (we are mad enough) to look after the retired UK Police horses, followed by a tour of the stables and then a cream tea on the lawn. These usually start at 3pm and are over by 5.30pm. Last year these ran for two afternoons a week but we may increase this to three this year. If you wish to join in these afternoons, please let us know and we can book you in. There will by no charge for your party.
We also ask that children be accompanied at all times when around the animals.

Tucked away into the hillside surrounded by plants and shrubs and with stunning views out over the countryside is the swimming pool. Somewhere to really relax and unwind. The poolside terrace is an ideal place for alfresco dining. The pool is available to guests when they are on site but please be aware that the owners may use it if guests are out and in the evenings if we have time and it is very hot.
The 50 acre extensive grounds offer homes to a variety of farm animals, including retired Police horses from the Metropolitan Police Force and Avon and Somerset Force, goats, sheep and chickens and the occasional Gloucester Old Spot pig. What a wonderful place - not only have Roland and Alison selflessly created a well-needed refuge for retired police horses (not to mention, ponies, goats, cats, dogs, sheep and chickens!!), but they have also created a beatiful holiday cottage in the most tranquil of settings. You need to have a love of animals to stay at this place, but if you have then you won't be disappointed! They kinda become part of the family, chickens wondering into the kitchen in the hope of a snack, Henry and Cooper (2 of the dogs) bounding up to welcome you in the hope of a tummy rub - or is it that you become part of their family?? not quite sure, but either way, it's a holiday with a difference. Alsion, Roland and their extended family were so welcoming and not only invited us for canapes (she's an amazing cook!) and afternoon tea but also played taxi driver when we went out for a special dinner at the local Chateau Villars (equally amazing). Our group was 6 adults and the property was ideal for lazing by the lovely pool and playing pool in the evening in the well equipped games room. There was even satellite TV so we were able to watch the Wimbledon final :-) . Everything is provided (even luxurious shower gel and body lotion) and if anything was missing the Philips would provide it no hassle. The only thing to be aware is that the 3rd bedroom (though lovely) is situated at the top of the stairs, which can make privacy and access to the en-suite bathrooms a bit of a challenge particularly at night. The kitchen could also do with some additional cutlery - but this is a v minor point as the cottage was really amazing and Alison and Roland really have thought of pretty much everything to make your stay a fabulous experience!! So get booking! The surrounding area is also stunning as is Brantome. The pefect place.

"Beautiful cottage in peaceful private setting"
We stayed here with friends for a week in Aug. The holiday was everything we were looking for, a beautiful cottage with large private pool not too far from a town.
Alison and Roland make your stay so relaxing, everything has been thought of in the cottage, its is beautifully decorated and spacious. A huge selection of DVDs if you do venture indoors !?, pool table, sky TV.. and a small libray of books. Outside the pool was bigger than we were expecting, and feels very private from the main house. If you love animals you MUST come here. 12 horses, 5 dogs, sheep, chickens and goats. All very friendly and only added to our holiday experience.
