La Domaine de Trepart is situated in the heart of truffle country, you can visit Sorges, the "Capitale de la Truffle" where there is a truffle museum and take a guided walk through the special Sorges truffle groves.
This offers a thrilling introduction to the mysteries of the truffle and it's cultivation.
The Brantome / St Pierre de Cole area
Brantome is just 10 minutes away where you will be able to dine in fine restaurants, suited to all budgets. There are many cafes, creperies and tearooms here, so it is worth strolling around, browsing at the various menus on offer before taking a seat. Friday morning is when this village comes to life with it's weekly market, a good tip is come early in order to get a good parking spot.
However it you prefer a little history then please venture a little further, perhaps to Perigueux with the largest cathedral in south western France. The Romanesque Cathedrale, St-Front was only completed in the 19th Century when the architect Paul Abadie oversaw the restoration and embellishment of the building. All around the cathedral is the old town with winding lanes dating from the 15th & 16th centuries. Follow them down to the pedestrianised Rue Limogeanne and you will find where the locals have been shopping since the Middle Ages.
The town was originally inhabited by a gaulish tribe called Petrocorri. It was the Romans however who claim the credit for developing the town into the department's prosperous capital. Today it is still a major market town, the market is on Wednesday and Saturday, when people come from all over the region to display their goods and browse for bargains. The local specialities are truffles and pies.
Bergerac is just 1 hour away and here you will have access to wonderful vineyards where you are encouraged to stop for a degustation and tour of the wine cellars. Or perhaps a little further to the Medoc area with wonderful Chateaux to visit and wines to taste. This is where you will find the famous Chateau Margaux where guided tours are arranged, this is highly recommended and should be prebooked.

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Bergerac or Limoges: 80 km |
| Railway: | Perigueux: 25 km |
| Ferry: | Calais: 765 km |
The distance from Calais is 760km and takes about 8 hours by car. (Boulogne-Rouen-LeMains-Poitiers-Angouleme). There are a number of alternative ferry companies. We have found Sea France to be very competitive. If you are prepared for a little longer drive you can use Norfolk Line to Dunkirk instead of Calais. This is about an additional 45km but if you decide to come through Paris this is no disadvantage.
By air to Bergerac or Limoges we suggest Ryanair, they have an almost daily service from Stansted or East Midlands, they are cheap if you book ahead. Alternatively Flybe from Exeter or Southampton, or sometimes Gatwick Ryanair to Angouleme, which is nearer. Flybe fly into Edinburth from Limoges. Bergerac & Limoges are just over 1 hour drive to Les Gites Trepart. Angouleme is 50 minutes away.
Rental cars are available from a large number of rental companies at Limoges/Bergerac/Angouleme. You can book Hertz through Ryanair. Europcar and Avis are also available.

My family has just returned from 2 weeks at L'Ecurie Gite... wishing we had booked for 3 weeks and looking forward to returning soon. L'Ecurie (and the neighbouring gite) are of an excellent standard, with plenty of considerate touches (bountiful welcome pack of food and drink, quality furnishings and linen, coffee machines ... and coffee, change of linen during your stay, etc). The photos on the website don't capture just how beautiful, relaxing and well equipped a place this is. As you enter the gite from the cobbled private driveway (shared with the sister gite) you are taken back with the size of the gite with its open plan layout downstairs and beautifully preserved beams visible in the rafters. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you need for your stay. 3 double sofas sit around a huge tv (excellent for DVDS). Expansive table and chairs for indoor dining. Upstairs are 3 very large rooms with very comfy beds :) and excellent standard of bathrooms. Then you step out of the back door onto your secluded balcony patio (fenced off for safety) and the first thing that hits you is the beautiful sound of the river and weir, situated 200m across the lawns with trees all around. Here you will find 2 canoes providing plenty of fun for all the family. Out the front of the property (across the driveway is the secluded and fully enclosed private pool and garden) with an abundance of loungers in shade and full sun, alongside table tennis and badminton with swings for the younger visitors (bikes are available for the older ones). A perfect place to while away the hours. As for location, that too cannot be bettered. A short walk from the village, 10 min from Brantome and about the same from St Jean de Cole (both of which have to be visited) and within easy reach of so much more. And then,of course, there are the Rothwells. A wonderful family who offer a genuine welcome to their guests. Thank you for making our stay so much fun. The only problem I see in the future is that once the word is out on how good this is we wont be able to get booked in again!!! Response: Thank you so much for such a lovely review and such great photos too. Looking forward to seeing you at Christmas! |
