The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Although not a Mediterranean climate the summer days are generally sunny and very warm. the Dordogne is an area steeped in history from the Unesco world heritage site with its decorated caves to the Medieval castles.
There are many attractive little villages scattered throughout the Perigord- Limousin National park
Perigeueax has a fine roman museum together with villa remains containing fine mosaic floors and there is very well preserved roman baths at Chassenon.
There are attractive lakeside beaches for swimming and sunbathing.
Sarlat has a very well preserved medieval centre and together with the sites of prehistory in the Vezere valley are well worth a day trip.
The Brantome / Vieux-Mareuil area
The nearby very picturesque town of Brantome has been described as the Venice of the North, the river circles the old town and the abbey overlooks the river, Canoeing is available and you can either circle the town or take longer trips to neighbouring villages from which you can be collected.
There are many beautiful villages nearby such as St Jean de Cole and Bourdeilles.
The national park offers many opportunities for cycling and walking to enjoy the natural history of the area, particularly its bird and butterfly life.
A Large Go-carting circuit is nearby.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Vieux Mareuil. The mobile home accommodation was comfortable, well equipped and spotless. Good privacy and facilities on the site - especially the swimming pool. Many local restaurants with reasonable prices. All in all a most relaxing and enjoyable holiday destination - a gem! Location is excellent, with lots to see and do locally and some excursions further afield if you want to. We took the train to Bordeaux one day - a very reasonable and relaxing way to visit the city. Only one fly in the ointment for us - lots of other Brits with the same idea in the Dordogne!
