Home description
This guest house is family owned and has been built in the 70s with a second round of refurbishments in 2003. It has 10 rooms available from which 9 are equipped with beds or retractable sofas and one more room which serves as a kitchenette and can be converted to a sleeping room when needed. The house consists of two dependencies with a third one planned for construction in 2008. The first dependency has 2 floors, with each consisting of 1 room that has central heating, own bathroom and tv. The second dependency has 8 rooms with single or double beds, central heating, tv and shared bathrooms.
The house makes for an ideal starting point for hiking trips in summer or for ski trips in the winter. Summers in the area are milder than in the South of the country while winters are rich in precipitations and can be quite cold. For tourists planning for hiking, they can choose to either go up to the Magura hill and reach for the Piatra Craiului Mountains or can go to the opposite direction towards the Bucegi Mountains which are the second highest of the country. In the last years, a new ski facility has been constructed at about 5 km/3.5 mi from where we stand. Advanced skiers could opt for the more popular slopes that are located in Brasov at about 40 km, 25 mi.
We provide breakfast, lunch and dinner provided that reservations are made in advance. The food can be prepared from local ingredients which are much more tasty but again, if the reservation time or the season permits it.
For those of you who don't have means of transportation or who wish to spend a short period of time on the road, we can pick you up from the airport or from the train station.

The Transylvania region
One of the 3 historic regions of the country - the other 2 are Tara Romaneasca/Valahia and Moldova - Transilvania is a mixture of cultural influences between the native, Germanic and Hungarian features. These influences are kept alive by their respective minorities which are spread across the provence and can be encountered anywhere from traditions to cuisine. For instance, on Gaina Mountain which is in the South East of the region, there's an annual fare called the Women's Fare ("Targul de fete" in Romanian) where men and women meet with the purpose of wedding. The roots of this tradition lies in the great distance between farms which would offer little means for the locals to meet, other than a fare. In Brasov, which has quite a large minority of German descents, one can find the Black Church which among other things, contains one of the tallest orgs and has a very precious collection of ancient rugs. As for the food, this is perhaps the most diverse region in terms of cuisine; it is here that you will find "apple soup", "gulasz" and many other dishes.
The climate is continental with 4 seasons, mild summers and cold winters. In the past decade, summers became hotter and winters got colder - perhaps due to the climate change. However, the region remains one of the preffered destinations for native and international tourists which seek either a refuggee from much higher temperatures that become regular in the South or for those who seek just a nice place for accommodation.
Bran area
The village served in history as a customs for merchants travelling between Transilvania and Tara Romaneasca/Valahia. The castle itself has been built in the XIV century and was one of the residences of the royal family of Romania in the first half of the past century. The castle served also as a defense point against enemies coming from South.
There are several hiking trails that guide towards the Bucegi Mountains or the Piatra Craiului Mountains. It is quite easy to reach the Bucegi due to more accesible roads that do not solicit special skills. Some hikers may opt for a trip over the Bucegi, by starting in Bran, reaching the peak of the Mountain and descend in Predeal, on the opposed verge.
