Home description

THE GUARDIAN published this year an article called "20 FANTASTIC FAMILY HOLIDAY VILLAS". 20 out of tens of thousands, from all over Europe! WE'RE IN IT! Here is an extract:

"Which child, or adult for that matter, wouldn't enjoy boasting that they holidayed less than a mile from "Dracula's Castle"? With immense flower-speckled grass carpets stretching towards the Carpathian peaks, and laced by mountain streams, Bran is a rural idyll. Heidi's funky tangerine theme, ....the Cold Mountain film set on your doorstep, a mountain creek running by and fir-tree forest views from the smart Jacuzzi room in the attic. A GLORIOUS RETREAT FOR FAMILIES OR FRIENDS".

This new house, its features, design and feeling, its great location in the village as well the village's stunning landscape and its proximity to Transylvania's most exciting sites (see house website for more details), is what you are probably looking for if you're tired of too many months in the city.

Take just the mountain creek passing by the house - a great soundtrack when you open a window, the incredible landscapes offered by short and longer walks starting and finishing at the house, the abundant presence of warm colours used inside the villa, the fabulous view from the double Jacuzzi located in the roof attic between two large windows overlooking the Carpathian Mountains, the orange and lime green pure cotton bedding and towels which come from our favourite producer, the pillows and the eiderdowns, filled with natural down or the extremely comfortable mattresses, or the thermostatic taps installed in all shower cabins. These and many other features speak for what the main goal behind this villa has been: to supply pleasure, relaxation and peace of mind.

We have always asked for feed back from our "most spoiled" guests' - from Switzerland, France, Austria the UK, New Zealand or the U.S., trying to find out what they felt could be improved and for quite some time now...no suggestions. That is maybe because this house was planned by us for many years as our own dream-mountain-vacation-house, gathering our ideas, designs and objects from all over the world.

"Place Under the Sun" also chose our house (last year) as their "Choice of the month", choosing it out of an immense pool of vacation houses from all over the world...

The Transylvania region

TRANSYLVANIA - A Legendary Land

(UK GUESTS !!! - CHEAP FLIGHTS FROM UK TO ROMANIA WITH WIZZAIR - www.wizzair.com )

Transylvania is by far the most romantic and inspiring of Romania's provinces. Its very name brings to mind visions of mountain peaks rising up to the sky above wooded valleys and sparkling streams, visions of high-roofed wooden churches, legendary castles and a troubled history.....

Bran area

"Dracula's Castle" is only one km away from our villa, but this nice castle built by the Teutonic Knights around 1212 should NOT be your main reason to visit Bran, BUT:

We have already had visitors from the UK, the USA, Switzerland, Germany and Austria and they all agreed: Bran's landscape is really unique in its intensive, wild beauty.

It is a highly picturesque mountain village, with its permanently changing topography, with its immense green grass carpets dotted with wild flowers, randomly decorated by thousands of hay stacks all along the summer and autumn, with sheep flocks crossing your way , framed by mountain streams, fir tree forests, fringed by the numerous Carpathian peaks almost from all directions, surrounded by cities resplendent with gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture, as well as a wealth of historical attractions, Bran's area is one of the most visited places in Romania.

Shops, Internet places, banks, ATVand ski rentals are never too far away.

Last but not least, please also keep in mind the traditional tasty meals offered by the many restaurants in the village itself as well as in the whole area.

How to get there

(UK GUESTS !!! - CHECK FOR CHEAP FLIGHTS FROM UK TO ROMANIA WITH WIZZAIR - www.wizzair.com )

We will gladly (and at no extra cost) not only help you with renting a car, but with the booking of several other services and sites we tested, tasted and enjoyed ourselves!

HOW TO REACH US COMING FROM BUCHAREST'S AIRPORT: Leaving the airport (Otopeni) you turn right (North) and drive towards Ploiesti on the "E60". You take the "1" driving around Ploiesti and continue on the "E60" driving NW. You pass Campina, Breaza, Comarnic, Sinaia, Busteni and Azuga. Before you reach Predeal, after passing a bridge, you turn West onto a lovely scenic winding road called "73A". Enjoy it for the next cca. 15 km till you reach a T-junction. That is the "73" or the "E574" where you turn left (S-SW). This road will take you to Bran. Once you reach Bran, you will cross a bridge followed after about 200m by an inn ("HANUL BRAN") and some 100m after the HAN, before you reach "Dracula's Castle", you turn left onto Bran's main road. Here, on the right, next to restaurant "Cristi", either me or the house administrator will be waiting for you, leading you to Casa Heidi which is just 1 km away. Time and other details we will discuss by phone or email, prior to your arrival. Except extreme winter days, access with a regular car all the way right next to the house is no problem.

Hints and Tips
More and more attractions appear every other day, but inside of Bran, the best, healthiest and most spectacular thing to do is hiking along its paths, its creeks, its hills, enjoying its wild peacefulness and breathtaking views. Once you do this, enjoying good restaurants will come quite naturally. The ski slope is just 2 km away from the house. This is where, in the summer, you'll start your walks inside the "Bucegi National Park": a great combination of fir forests, mountain creeks, wild strawberry, raspberry, mushrooms and no traffic at all. Not far from Bran you have an unique (and 100% safe) bear park. OK, before leaving Bran, "fulfill your duty", visit "Dracula's Castle which is surrounded by a very good "village museum" where you'll get an idea of how life used to be and look like in Bran's surroundings. An updated list of restaurants (traditional as well as special ones - ostrich, deer and bear specialties) and more or less extreme sports and leisure options, I will supply you before arrival. Casa Heidi is a great base for one day trips in the area. The most wonderful Medieval Saxon towns, fortified churches and fortresses are never too far - see my website or any travel guide.

Following their vacation in Casa Heidi we ask our guests if anything was missing and what they suggest us to do in order to make our house even better, so future guests will not feel they rented "a house" but that they came home, as soon as they arrived. For quite some time now we did not hear but "sorry, no suggestions, it was quite perfect". That is probably because we initially did not even consider renting it out, but just planned our dream-mountain-vacation-house, for ourselves only, collecting designs, ideas, objects from all over the world.

We recommend one week stays, as this is what it would take to experience only

a first, quite superficial encounter with Transylvania's most interesting sites.

During the New Year period fees are higher.

Guestbook for Casa Heidi

We really enjoyed a lot and I felt it like my home. There are lots of details who make it very comfortable.
I am an architect and I value the space, the design, the light....

The time we have in your Vila was wonderful, and the housekeeper, like a father took care for every thing.

Finally we are back at home again. We enjoyed the days in your house and everything was perfect.

Casa Heidi was our "winter wonderland house". Its charm and facilities, its lovely caretaker, were all far beyond our expectations. It had every comfort we could desire. The surrounding countryside covered in snow was breath taking. We were a large group of family and friends and all look back at this stay at Casa Heidi as a very special one.

We had a most enjoyable time at your lovely house.

Casa Heidi is a precious house, ideal for a resting week, what we were looking for; so spacious, gladly furnished and very well equipped (specially the kitchen). But the most important: one feels himself there in a familiar home, not in a touristic apartment.

Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your house. We really enjoyed it a lot and I felt it like home. There are a lot of details which make it very comfortable. I am an architect and valued its space, design, the light....
