The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.

Surrounded by hills and fields just two miles from the village of Brampton Carhullan makes for a very peaceful retreat in the Cumbrian hills. Brampton is a traditional Cumbrian town with wide cobbled streets and a market place. Brampton is full of history and is the perfect base from which to explore the famous Hadrian's Wall. There are a number of attractions in the town as well as a farm shop, tea room and pub serving meals daily. Carhullan is just eight miles from Penrith, a market town with great access to both the Eden Valley and the Pennine Hills. Ullswater, the second largest lake in England can be accessed easily from Carhullan and offers a huge range of activities both on and off the water and of course fantastic walks including the start of an accent up Helvellyn.
