About this location
The Wiltshire region
Bradford-on-Avon is situated in the South West and is just 15 minutes from the Georgian City of Bath. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area, making Bradford-on-Avon the ideal base from which to explore.
Local National Trust properties include Lacock Abbey, Stourhead, Tyntesfield, Prior Park Landscape Gardens, Clevedon Court, Bath Assembly Rooms and Dyrham Park.
Further afield is Stonehenge, Glastonbury Abbey and Salisbury Cathedral.
Bradford on Avon has many fine examples of architecture from the Saxon, Medieval, Tudor, Georgian and Industrial Revolution periods.
The bridge retains two of the original 13th century arches as well as an 18th century 'Blind House', which served as the town lock-up!
Why not visit the 14th century Tithe Barn retaining its old threshing floors and other features from its agricultural past. It has been used as a setting for several TV dramas. Take a walk through The Shambles. It was the meat market in medieval times, but is now a quaint, pedestrian walkway lined with a range of small, boutique shops. Stop for afternoon tea at the Victorian Tea Shop, named as 'UK's Top Tea Place' by the prestigious UK Tea Guild. If you enjoy museums, then visit the town's museum, home to a diverse collection illustrating the history of the town, along with an exact reconstruction of the Victorian Chemist's shop that used to serve the town. Within Barton Farm Country Park, is a range of medieval buildings known as Barton Grange Farm.
For those that enjoy cycling, bicycles from adult mountain bikes to childrens' bikes, trailers, tag-alongs or child seats can be rented in Bradford-on-Avon. The Kennet and Avon Cycle route is Britain's most popular long-distance waterside cycle-route. From town, you can cycle west towards Bath passing the stunning aqueducts at Dundas and Avoncliff. It is a level 8 mile bike ride to Bath. At Bath you can join the Bristol and Bath Railway path.
Cycling east from Bradford on Avon you reach the Caen hill locks at Devizes where the canal ascends Caen Hill via a flight of 16 locks.
Canadian canoes can be hired near the lock at Bradford on Avon. The canoes are very safe and easy to use and can be paddled solo or with a couple, or a family of four.
If you fancy something a bit more leisurely, then how about taking a trip on a 65ft wide-beam boat along the Kennet and Avon canal. Trips run from Bradford on Avon to the Avoncliff Aqueduct or Widbrook.
Enjoy a day out at the Races in nearby Bath, or experience a Guinness Premiership match at The Rec, home of Bath Rugby. Play Golf at Bowood Golf Club, or try Racing at Castle Combe.
At Thermae Bath Spa there is a choice of 50 treatments and 3 pools, including a roof top pool with stunning views of the city. Visit the Roman Baths, with their remarkably complete remains built around Britain's only hot springs. Come in the summer and enjoy the Opera and Jazz Festival at nearby Iford Manor. In September, enjoy the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, with many events spread out over the 9 day period. In December, for 18 days, the quaint streets and the square between the stunning Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths are transformed into a Christmas shopper's haven – the Bath Christmas markets.
There's so much to do with the kids. Longleat House & Safari park will entertain young and old. Feed the giraffes, reindeer and sealions; get lost in the maze; take a train ride or boat trip; or why not see how many car parts the monkeys can remove in the monkey enclosure! Visit Cheddar Gorge & Caves where kids can abseil, climb or go caving. How about visiting the East Somerset Railway on Thomas the Tank Engine days! On a rainy day, visit Wookey Hole, the West's largest indoor attraction. For something a bit closer to home and a bit different, why not try the West of England Falconry in nearby Monkton Combe where you can learn to fly hawks. Or for a 'quieter' day, take the kids swimming at the pool in Bradford-on-Avon.

"Good location, beautiful cottage, shame there is no parking"
Great location, beautiful cottage with lovely homely furnishings. The road outside is quite busy and noisy, that's the only down side.

Us four old school friends stayed at Bridge Cottage for the weekend and loved it. It's immaculate, has all the kit you could need - kitchen digital radio, groovy CDs to listen to, huge towelling robes - and is decorated in such a pretty way. Our welcome fizz and cakes were such a treat, and it's literally a 4 minute walk to the train station to hop on the train to Bath. Shame there's no garden but that is the only downside - plus there's the village green and parks just down the road so it's not a big problem. Totally recommend!
