Home description
A dedicated gardening couple created this private island paradise. When they retired to a smaller residence we bought their home and spent six months doing a total renovation. Work was just completed in December 2006.
The home is hidden on a quarter acre garden lot (1,020 sq m.) surrounded by palms, birds of paradise and a 6 ft privacy fence. The corner lot is on two low-traffic roads just north of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, which sits on 3 acres of palm trees and lawn. Few island homes offer this degree of privacy. The home has front and rear lanais, lots of glass and six skylights giving sunny garden views from every room. It includes a secure indoor parking garage with electric opener.
The spacious 2,600 sq ft (240 sq m.) ground level split floor plan has a master suite at the west end end and a guest wing with bath and 2 bedrooms at the east end.
The huge (huge!) kitchen is actually two kitchens: a "cooking kitchen" with convection oven, stove, microwave, fridge, sink and five seat dining counter. On the other side is a "serving kitchen" with double sink, dishwasher and pass through counter to the dining room. The kitchen also features a greenhouse area with ferns and tropical plants.
All appliances, including the washer and dryer in the garage, are brand new.
The lanai entertainment area has a sunny southern exposure overlooking the tropical pool, rock waterfall and spa. It includes a CD player with indoor and outdoor speakers, AM/FM and XM Satellite Radio with more than 100 radio stations.
At the west end, your formal dining room features a mica flecked granite table with eight silk upholstered chairs. To the east is a lanai conversation area with comfortable seating for six. The lanai has an indoor garden with tropical foliage, including a large fiddler fig tree, seen in the dining photo.
The comfortable living room has a 72 inch projection TV, DVD, VCR, premium digital cable and a digital recorder to automatically tape your favourite programs to view at your convenience.
NEW - We just added wireless broadband Internet + digital phone service with unlimited long distance in the US and Canada. This would make your visit a great time to chat with all those potentially rich relatives who moved to The Colonies so long ago!

The Florida / Florida Gulf Coast region
Gulf & Bay Beaches - Miles of white sand beaches surround our intimate island just a short walk or bike ride away. Parking is free is you go by car. Secluded Bean Point Beach is hidden at the northernmost tip. Other popular beaches with free facilities (gazebos, restrooms and BBQ grills) include Bayfront Park, Gulf Front Park, Manatee County Beach and Cochina Beach.
Island Trolley - Your personal "island style" limo with Hawaiian-shirt wearing drivers. The island trolley runs from the City Pier at the north end all the way to Coquina Beach at the southern tip, with a stop just a few hundred feet away. Best of all, it's FREE!
Kayaking, SCUBA & Surfing - Gulf breezes regulate our temperature year round so active sports are especially enjoyable on our island. Activities and equipment are readily available.
Bradenton / Anna Maria Island area
Dining - An Irish proverb says, "Laughter is brightest where food is best." You'll laugh a lot on our island with dozens of interesting restaurants from economical to gourmet.
Shopping - Our island attracts a delightful melange of merchants and artists selling original artwork, antiques, beach accessories, clothing, toiletries, custom jewellery and craft items. We also have large drugstores and grocery market so you won't ever have to cross the bridge back to the mainland.
Fishing - Henry David Thoreau said "Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." People have enjoyed fishing from our city pier since 1912. The "latest" fishing trend is the Rod & Reel pier, established in 1946. What a relaxing way to mingle with island residents, including dolphins, pelicans, egrets, manatees, gulls and buoys (sorry!).
Bird Watching - Anna Maria Island is a designated bird sanctuary with pelicans, gulls and wild parrots. A couple of visiting bird watchers taught us that dozens of more exotic birds vacation here. Magnificent frigate birds, sanderlings, yellow crowned night herons, double crested cormorants, semi-palmated plovers, royal terns, osprey, palm warblers, snowy egrets, green herons, blue herons and sand pipers abound, if you know what to look for.
Sunsets - On Florida's Gulf Coast sunsets take on a whole new meaning, becoming an event that you participate in! Whether you enjoy your sunset with a Bahama Mama on the deck of the Sandbar Restaurant or have a romantic, private sunset at Bean Point, it's an important part of your island day.

Guestbook for Super Private Garden Paradise
"My family had the most wonderful holiday in this super house on the fabulous Anna Maria Island. This beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, spacious, well equipped and extremely comfortable house was a pleasure to stay in. The location in Holmes Beach on the middle of the Island was handy for all directions and meant it was easy to use the bikes to ride to the shops." SheB - Swindon UK - May 2008
"We have been to the island many times and this was indeed the best place we have ever stayed. The house is beautiful and has everything you need. It was such a relaxing vacation. We took 3 children, ages 8, 13 and 15, and they truly enjoyed it and can't wait to go back. Our hosts, Kent and Pa, made us feel very welcome!" Indiana Family - Nashville, IN - June 2008
"This house was amazing and I wish I could live there forever. I think the house was in a perfect location to everything on the island too. Honestly you can be at the north most point of the island (there are some restaurants there) and in the downtown in a matter of 5 minutes. The beach is close by too." Omniasoft - Streetsboro, OH - June 2008
