Chalet Grand Bec is located in a quiet French lotissement a few minutes walk from the centre of the charming and conveniently located Alpine village of Bozel, an ideal base for both winter (Courchevel and La Plagne ski resorts within 15 mins reach) and summer holidays alike. In the heart of the Vanoise National Park (perfect for walking, cycling, mountain biking, triathlon, fishing, paragliding etc.), Bozel benefits from a beautiful small lake with a small family beach and bar/restaurant. This makes Bozel an ideal base for triathlon training, having access to open water swimming, numerous running routes and both road and off-road cycling. Bozel also has a range of local shops and restaurants, sufficient for all your holiday needs with the larger towns of Moutiers (twice weekly market), Albertville, Annecy and Chambery within easy drive for the more adventurous.

Chalet Grand Bec was bought by the the Whitwell family in 2007 following a year spent living in Bozel (long enough to appreciate its understated charm). Renovated to a high standard, the chalet has 4 bedrooms (2 double, 1 with en-suite and 2 twins (though the second twin comprises a single bed and a small double bed at a mezzanine level accessed by a wooden ladder, possibly more suited to children).
The spacious downstairs has an open plan feel with a new kitchen with large table and comfortable seating for 8-9 in the lounge which benefits from a roaring wood burner (wood provided). A large decked terrace is reached through the glass sliding doors from where stunning panoramic views of Courchevel and the surrounding Alps (including the Grand Bec) can be enjoyed. There is a TV room (UK freeview channels only + DVD, French channels available on separate TV +DVD in lounge) in the basement area plus a ski boot warmer and ample space for skis, boots etc.
There is a table tennis table available for use in the integrated garage.
|Further details outdoors|
Apart from the large garage there is ample space outside for 2 cars.
There is a small, natural (i.e. not manicured!) garden to the rear of the chalet. The front door is reached via steps to the side of the house so wheelchair access would be challenging.
There is also access to the property via the garage (the chalet is built on a a slope with the garage, TV room, shower room and boot warmer in the basement) though there is also access to the house via the garage from the road.
Sunday changeover. Will consider short breaks though weekend breaks to finish on Sunday (e.g. arrive Wed evening leave Sunday) to avoid eating into 2 weeks of letting.
The Rhône-Alpes region
In the heart of the Vanoise National Park, Bozel is the perfect location for winter and summer holidays alike. In the winter 2 of the worlds largest ski areas are on your doorstep with Courchevel (via Le Praz) a 15 min drive/free shuttle bus away and La Plagne (via Champagny) a 5 min drive away. Most visitors choose one or other of these ski areas for the duration of their stay but for the more adventurous, multiple ski resort breaks are a real option with other nearby resorts of Meribel (opening up the rest of the 3 Vallleys), Pralognan (little known resort 14 km further up the Bozel valley) and Valmorel (35 min drive) all easily accessible for the independent minded.
As one the highest year round village in the area Bozel is home to many ski instructors and other seasonal workers so contact details for babysitting, ski lessons, ski + bike hire, canyoning, massage and French lessons can be provided on request.
Many visitors (including some of our own family!) actually prefer the summer when Bozel is a perfect base for some of Europe's best walking, cycling, mountain biking and paragliding. Many Tour De France classic climbs are nearby (please enquire for more details) and the Courchevel ski lifts are open for downhill mountain biking (other mountain biking options are simply limitless).
There are outdoor and indoor swimming pools within easy reach at Champagny (5 min drive), Meribel and Aigueblanche respectively. Other activities include climbing and via ferrata.
Typically the climate is warm (mid-high 20s) and dry in the summer (occasional thunder storms) - generally much more comfortable than on the south coast.
Couuchevel, Meribel, Brides Les Bains, Val Thorens (all 3 Valleys) Pralognan (little known French ski resort 14 km further into the heart of the Vanoise National Park), Champagny (with access to La Plagne ski area)
In Bozel or nearby - swimming lake (summer); athletics track; tennis (all in Bozel village); horse riding (Le Praz or Pralognan); outdoor swiimming pool (Champagny); golf (Meribel + Courchevel); indoor swimming (Meribel + Aigueblanche); via ferrata (several within easy drive); mountain biking; walking (everywhere); paragliding; cycling (many classic Tour climbs nearby); rafting; canoeing (a particular favourite).
Annecy (1 hr); Albertville (30 mins); Bourg St Maurice (30 mins); Beaufort (1 hr);

"Fantastic chalet in quiet location"
Very spacious, luxury family chalet with everything needed for a great ski holiday. It is located on a quiet road with great views from the front veranda(best enjoyed with a beer) . We also made the most of the BBQ a couple of times ! Kids enjoyed the use of the Table Tennis table and crashing out in the basement TV room. We drove 15 mins up to Courchevel every day with no problem dropping off for ski school. Bozel is a lovely town with a few bars and restaurants only 5 mins walk from the chalet. We also hired our ski's & boots from the local shop who were very helpful and reasonable prices too . We had a great holiday and would definately return to Chalet Grand Bec

"Made a good holiday even better!"
Self catering option for skiing is usually a shoe box in resort but this was such a better version! Comfort, space, all amenities, it all just worked, no hassles at all. We had a car & drove up to resort every day in about 15 minutes with no problem finding a free parking spot. The car allowed us to drive down to the nearest big supermarket for a 'shop'. Being out of resort in Bozel meant that bars or eating out were a bit cheaper, and within walking distance. I can thoroughly recommend it.

"Fantastic chalet for all the family"
Stayed in August/September 2010. We know the area well as skied for the last 10 years based in LePraz. One of the nicest Chalet's we have stayed in. The owners treat this as a second home and it shows in the way the Chalet is looked after and presented. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in a luxury chalet with stunning views and a fab sun deck.

"Loved it, and highly recommend!"
Beautiful chalet with all amenities and comforts! Attractive and spacious common areas, roomy and cozy bedrooms. The ground floor lounge with TV and extra bathroom were a luxury bonus. Great view from very large, sunny terrace. Owners were attentive and quick to respond. It is their holiday home and we truly felt at home there. Quiet neighborhood, and a pleasant 5+ minute walk downhill to Bozel, an attractive, small town with a selection of shops, restaurants, grocer and butcher. No real nightlife scene, which suited us fine. You can also catch the free ski shuttle from there or drive the 10 minutes to the closest lifts at Courcheval. We always found a parking spot at the mountain. The ski rental shop we chose near the lifts allowed us to stow our gear there each night even though some of us owned our own equipment. We loved our stay, and would definitely return!
