A converted 16th century farmhouse, this house offers a unique opportunity to stay in a listed, traditional Lakeland home. The property retains some rare original features such as oak panelling between the bedrooms, an original 16th century open fire range and spice cupboard in the sitting room and oak stairs, whilst having the benefit of modern comforts such as fitted kitchen and bathroom and freeview TV.
The property has been maintained as a holiday cottage by the current owners family for a number of generations.

The Lake District
The Lake District is the most popular visitor destination in the UK, offering something for everyone whether you are looking for adventure and outdoor pursuits or something less energetic like a cookery course.
The scenery is stunnning and varies from season to season, with Wordsworth's famous daffodils in Spring or the impressive array of colours in the autumnal trees.
There are many transport links to get to this popular destination and once there you can chose from steam trains, ferries, buses or steamers to enjoy looking at the scenery.
There are many famous people who have links with the Lake District such as Beatrix Potter, Ruskin, Wordsworth and Donald Campbell and there are museams and tours based on their lives in the area.
The nearest town to the house is Bowness which offers a good variety of shops, pubs, restaurants and more, including the World of Beatrix Potter museam, the Steamboat Museam, rowing and motor boat hire and a cinema.
There is an annual Airshow at the Glebe in Bowness usually towards the end of July (please check with Tourist Information on +44 (0)15394 42895 as well as a number of other local events throughout the year.

"Amazing traditional Lakeland cottage in a wonderful location"
This place is superb. The cottage is a lovely traditional Lakeland cottage with loads of oldie worldy character and the peaceful location if wonderful. It's a perfect get away in the country but only a 5 minute drive into Bowness and to Lake Windermere if you need anything.
The house has everything you need. We had great weather so could get outside and barbecue and walk up the hill behind the house, but the fire in the living room looks like it would be great in colder times and the cottage would be very cosy.
The children loved the place and being so close to the animals. The farmer and his wife who look after the place were very helpful and were great with the kids and even let them feed some of the animals.
There are loads of things to do in the area for all weathers and they are only a short drive away.
If you don't like this place you must be mad - we will definitely be returning the future as it really recharged the batteries!
Thank you for taking the time to review our house, I'm glad to enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back!

"Atmospheric old farmhouse, full of character, in beautiful location"
We had a great, relaxing family holiday with our three children (10, 8 and 3) when we spent a week in this beautiful and well maintained old farmhouse. It was very special to be able to stay in such a lovely old house, especially as it is in a wonderful, peaceful location. It's only a short drive to Bowness/Windermere, but you definitely feel off the beaten track. It had everything we needed and I found the bed very comfortable. The children loved meeting the local farm animals. The caretaker was very friendly and helpful.

"Lovely place, we'll be going there again"
The pictures don't really give the full sense of the age of the house, nor the size of the rooms. Amazing old dark oak panels between the rooms and floors that go up and down make this somewhere really special for a holiday, it's probably the oldest place our family has ever stayed by a couple of centuries. The immediate area is quiet, with plenty of walks and views across the hills, Bowness is a short drive away for shops and trips on the lake.
The lounge is big enough to have three generous sofas and still feel spacious, and the fire is really nice on cooler nights. Swifts fly around the house, and if you stand still for a bit, sometimes really fly close to you.
We were very happy in our week there, and hope to return again.
Many thanks for your comments, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back soon!

"Comfortable, homely cottage with fab walled garden"
We stayed with friends who had children and found the cottage to be very comfortable, the walled garden was great and a real suntrap. The cottage is far enough away to feel you are getting away from it all but near enough to go out and visit places nearby without it being a real trek.
Many thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed your stay.

"A wonderful place to stay, character, ideal location and so much freedom"
Bellman Houses was wonderful. Full of character and ideally located on a farm so could wander across the fields, converse with friendly animals etc or pop into Bowness.
Private caravans in nearby fields but no problems about privacy and the children made friends and played together.
The open fire was wonderful and the only criticism we have is there were no tea towels so take your own!
Many thanks for your review, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope we can welcome you back soon.
