RAINBOW TROUT FISHING IN WALES

In Ceredigion, the angler is almost spoilt for choice with further opportunities presenting themselves in terms of sea angling from boats sailing from Aberystwyth – Cardigan Bay's largest town – with tope, bream, skate and mackerel being the main quarry. Shore fishing, from the surrounds of one of Ceredigion's many award-winning beautiful beaches, offers rock marks for a wide variety of species. There are so many things to do nearby. If you like fishing there Clarach Bay is an ideal spot and Aberystwyth Angling society will give you all the information you need.

Borth Village few miles drive from Clarach

Established in 1885 Borth and Ynyslas has a strong claim to be the oldest course in Wales. Set on the estuary of the River Dovey in the sweep of Cardigan Bay, the stunning views may distract you from the golf… but not for long. The water is safe for bathing, and has achieved the coveted European Blue Flag Award for water quality.

The Animalarium at Borth is a collection of unusual and interesting animals to amuse and delight you. We have domestic and farm animals which you can pet and feed in the petting barn. Also there are exotic and endangered species in the larger enclosures, where we attempt to breed animals whose natural environment is under threat. Great place for the family to spend the day there is something for alL ages. Watch them feed the Leopards every day at 4pm and the crocodiles twice weekly. For more information visit the Animalarium website

All play areas at the Animalarium are free!

Great indoor ball pool for under eights with rocking toys and a toy crocodile.

Two outdoor play areas with climbing structures and slides.

An outdoor sandpit with 'sit on' diggers.

There is a Wendy House for five year olds and under.

The Vale of Rheidol Railway is one of the Great Little Trains of Wales, and was the last steam railway owned by British Rail until it was privatised in 1989.

Opened in 1902, it was originally built to serve the lead mines in the Rheidol Valley. Passengers and timber also formed the mainstay of traffic on the 1ft 11¾ in gauge route which passes through some of the most rugged terrain of any railway in the United Kingdom. Despite the narrow gauge of the rails, the locomotives and carriages – built at the Great Western Railway's Swindon Works – are as wide as their standard gauge equivalents.

The VoR Railway runs for 11¾ miles from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge. The terminus is adjacent to the national network station at Aberystwyth, and on the hour-long journey passengers have spectacular views of the wooded Rheidol Valley – views unseen for decades until the VoRR began its renovation programme ten years ago. This programme continues today, and will see more views opened up for VoRR passengers, and improved facilities at both terminal stations.

At Devil's bridge, there are walks to Mynach Falls, Devil's Punchbowl and Jacob's Ladder.

This Championship course offers traditional links golf as it should be played. Harry Colt's input on the design of the course shortly after 1945 ensures that the rolling humps and hollows provide variation, strategically placed bunkers and the inevitable 'Borth Breeze' ensure that shots have to be struck accurately to challenge par.

Adjoining Borth beach, the course follows the traditional 'out and back' design. The turn nestles in the shelter of the dunes at Ynyslas. Our newly extended clubhouse offers full catering and bar facilities, where a warm welcome is assured. One of the largest golf shops in the area provides an array of the latest equipment.

Bow Street

Clarach Bay beach has been awarded the Marine Conservation highest award for water quality and is a popular site for fishing. It also has the coveted Green Coast Award The Green Coast Award for rural beaches is designed to recognize those beaches with European Blue Flag water quality whose management reflects their rural, unspoilt nature. The criteria are intended to ensure that such beaches can receive recognition without the need for inappropriate development which would spoil their natural beauty and risk damage to wildlife. There are many rock pools on the beach for children to explore.

On either side of Clarach Bay beach you can go along the cliff tops and walk for miles enjoying the panoramic views of the sea and surrounding countryside. There is a beautiful little river that runs through Clarach Bay Holiday Village which is used by fishermen and children with fishing nets. Where the river meets the sea it forms a natural little pool where children can play and float safely on rubber dingies.
