Etang Fourreau is a traditional French Farmhouse B&B with private swimming pool, offering bed and breakfast accommodation and table d'hote dining in the heart of the beautiful Poitou Charente countryside. The ancient farmhouse is situated on a lake, in two acres of gardens, surrounded by trees, hedgerows and farmland. - The perfect place to stay if you want a relaxing break, are house hunting or looking for an action packed holiday.
Our accommodation is ideal for those seeking the privacy and space of a gite, without the inconvenience of self-catering. There is also ample parking and free wifi.
The Honeysuckle family suite can sleep up to six people, and features two spacious bedrooms separated by a private sitting room, perfect for families or friends. One room offers two double beds and the other a double with futon beds also available for smaller children.
Each bedroom is equipped with crisp white eygptian cotton linen, and the entire suite is furnished to provide a restful and luxurious haven. The sitting room is equipped with two plush sofas, LCD TV and DVD player including UK satellite TV channels.
The bathroom is paved in traditional French style and features complimentary toiletries, heated towel rail, huge fluffy bath sheets and separate WC.
There are two acres of enclosed gardens at Etang Fourreau, including a one acre lakeside and a swimming pool. Some of the attractions of the gardens include flowers, shrubs, fruit trees, and a vegetable garden which provides a seasonal focus to our freshly cooked dinners and home-made jams and conserves at breakfast.
Breakfast, which includes fresh homemade bread and jams, croissants, tea or coffee and fruit juice, can be eaten on our lovely south facing terrace, or you can eat in our traditional farmhouse kitchen.
Dinner (needs to be booked separately) consists of an aperitif, four courses, wines and tea or coffee.
During the day, there are plenty of shady spots with tables and chairs, Table tennis is available for the energetic and refreshments can be found in the honesty fridge.
Pets can be accommodated at an additional charge, but arrangements need to be made in advance as we have dogs and cats of our own.
There are several countryside walks just outside the gates if you need to stretch your legs a little or within an 60 minute drive you can get to two of the best theme parks in France -Futurescope and Puy du Fou. For something more leisurely there is the Venise Verte countryside, chateaux, abbeys, and the beautiful unspoilt villages.
Etang Fourreau is situated between a number of historic towns, Parthenay, Thouars, Airvault, Bressuire and St Loup-sur-Thouet, each of which have their own distinctive architecture and cultural events.
Airvault features a regular Saturday morning market in July hosts a World Music and Dance festival.
St Loup-sur-Thouet is a typical old French village with a lovely chateau and a great pizzeria!
Thouars hosts a Blues Festival in April each year and has some very good and reasonably priced restaurants. The weekly Friday market is one of the best in the area, with locally produced food, including goats cheese and Charentaise melons.
Parthenay has timber and brick houses and was on the route (or Way of St James) to Santiago de Compostela and there a number of references to this in the buildings. There is a Jazz Festival each summer with a number of concerts arranged between May and July.
We look forward to welcoming you to our home and will do everything we can to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one.

"Peaceful location, fantastic food, homegrown veg and fruit, delightful hosts"
Stayed in June last year and although the weather was mixed the warm welcome we received from David and Louise made up for the weather. The holiday accommodation is spacious, welcoming and very clean, we felt totally relaxed for the week we were there with nothing being too much trouble. Louise is the best cook ever. Although set in a very rural location we found it easy to venture to a few nearby towns to soak up the French ambience and a few Chateau's.
