Home description
Amethyst Gite is truly a jewel among gites! Located in the beautiful Creuse countryside, it is the perfect place to spend an unforgettable family holiday.
Amethyst Gite comes with exclusive use of a one acre lake stocked with carp, perch and roach. It’s ideal for the family angler. For the dedicated carpiste we have a 2 acre specimen lake available for rent next to the gite or day tickets for the main 10 acre carp lake are available.
Our 75 acre estate contains lakes, woodland and fields and you are free to roam and explore. We raise a small herd of llamas who are always pleased to make new friends.
The area is quiet and rural and is a great base for walking or cycling.
There is plenty to do and see in the area. Ancient churches, museums, amazing rock formations, animal parks, mazes, bustling local markets, swimming lakes with sandy beaches, quiet green lanes, busy towns, rocky gorges, peaceful rivers – they’re all waiting for you – and so are we!

The Limousin / Auvergne / Creuse region
Explore La Creuse, known as the green heart of France on foot or on bicycle or travel further afield by car. The county is rich in green lanes and quiet roads. Several Grand Randonnee run nearby and there are many marked walks as well.
The climate is warm and dry in summer but without excessive temperatures due to the effect of the massive central
The nearest town is Boussac with its splended 15th century castle built by Jean de Brosse, a friend of Joan of Arc. There is a busy market every Thursday morning selling excellent local produce.
Famous French writer George Sands has many connections with the local area, including Boussac Castle itself. You can visit her home and the museum dedicated to her which are both close to La Chatre, a 20 minute drive away.
The mystifying Pierres Jaumatres near Toulx Ste Croix are well worth a visit. There is a superb treetop activity there too which kids especially will love.
You won’t want to miss the wolf park at Gueret, nor the giant maze and other oversized games.
Swimmers can choose from the excellent pool at La Chatre, a smaller open air pool at Soumans or the several swimming lakes in the area. Our favourite is 13 km away at Chatelus Malaveix.
Boussac / Nouzerines area
The nearest village is Nouzerines which has a boulangerie, post office, auberge and garage and is within walking distance (1 mile).
This department is rich in patrimony (ancient history) and our local village Nouzerines features a 12th century church with a nearby miraculous spring reputed to heal eye diseases. Many of the churches in this area are romanesque and have twisted wooden spires.
