UNIQUE DETACHED SELF-CATERING COTTAGE in Bourton on the Water, frequently featured as one of England's prettiest villages. Driving up your own driveway, you will find The Lodge in a secluded spot away from the road. With an open and sunny aspect, you are also able to enjoy the many mature trees around your own private garden. Entering through the sunny conservatory, look up and see the vaulted ceiling and massive green oak beams. This purpose built open plan cottage with its Plantation Shutters, oak flooring and breakfast bar in the well planned kitchen, feels a million miles away from everyday life. All you can see looking out of your windows is your own little garden, or the park-like grounds of Larks Rise House, who owner-manage The Lodge. Not overlooked at all, by anyone. With so many wonderful local destinations, you will be delighted to come home to the amazingly comfortable king size bed, have a hot shower in the double shower, watch a DVD/TV or tell your friends via wifi what you have been up to! Although self-catering, this cottage is well-equipped with generous quantities of all you will need other than food - and even then, we ask your requirements in advance and put in an 'Arrive and survive' pack. When it's chilly, the electric heating is more than adequate, but for that really cosy feeling light the log fire, using our free logs. Although designed as luxury accommodation for two, we can easily supply a third bed if needed.

The Central England/Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and world famous for its stunning views and beautiful unspoilt villages. Ideally situated with easy access from London, Birmingham, Wales, via the M4, M5 and M40. The population is sparse, leaving you to enjoy wonderful walks, horseriding, cycling or touring. There are plenty of National Trust properties, Castles and Palaces to visit here. The Cotswolds offer sophistication in the form of excellent restaurants, antiques and shopping (maybe that's why Royalty and Stars of Stage and Screen choose this as the place to live!).

Bourton on the Water

Situated at the centre of the Cotswold District, Bourton on the Water is often called 'The Venice of the Cotswolds' and consistently voted one of Britain's Prettiest Villages. This village has its own attractions, such as Birdland, The Motor Museum, The Maze, The Perfumery and the Model Village, as well as offering many local circular walks. Ideally located for visits to National Trust properties such as Snowshill and Hidcote Manor, as well as Blenheim Palace and the Cotswold Wildlife Park. Or perhaps travel a little further afield, and enjoy a day out in Stratford upon Avon, Bath, Oxford, Bristol.... all in easy reach. Superb shopping at our many individually owned boutiques, or enjoy one of the many Christmas markets or shopping evening. Our charming local pubs have delightful gardens for the summer, and log fires in the winter. This is really a year round destination.

We booked the lodge for a first holiday without children for many years, our youngest having gone to university this September. We wanted a treat for ourselves and were not disappointed. Bill and Barb… More

"Beautiful and tranquil"

For my first trip to the Cotswolds I thoroughly enjoyed the area and most of all the lodge. The owners was so kind and friendly. The lodge itself was set back away from everyone and felt very private.… More

"Lovely Area"

Great lodge, walking distance to Bourton on Water with restaurants and bars. Weather was hot, only criticism was there needed to be a fan, no air coming in very hot and stuffy, heated towel rail on constant making bathroom very hot, on a cold day you would be happy with the heat but on a hot day it was too hot in bathroom. Would benefit having ceiling fan fitted. Too many rules and regulations to keep it clean and tidy for a weekend away. A litte more detail to clearing cob webs and thick dust under the bed.
If you want your own space with no one else around to hear or bug you this is the place to stay.

Thank you for your review. We think a fan would be a good idea, and will put one in for next summer. The Lodge is usually cool, as it is very well insulated, but of course it was 28 degrees C the weekend you stayed. You can turn the heated towel rail off! Whilst disappointed you found some dust, I was relieved you had to look under the bed to do so! That will not be missed again. I think that the 'Rules and Regs' are what we call our 'Terms' which are printed for your convenience, and are in effect 'the small print'. Other than that, we just ask that you recycle and clear up after yourselves when you leave. Glad that you enjoyed your stay overall. Bill and Barbara
