Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Come to Farncombe Cottage for peace and tranquility with spectacular views over the open countryside of the Windrush Valley. We are the last house at the end of a private/no through road in Clapton on the Hill, nearly 700ft above sea level..
Farncombe Cottage forms the western wing of the owners home and is maintained to a very high standard. On the ground floor is the entrance porch with logs stored for the log burner in the winter months. Into the hall with the double bedded room off with its ensuite bathroom, which is light and airy.
Upstairs, taking advantage of the views is a very large lounge with 2 seating areas, a log burner sitting within a character inglenook fireplace. A separate dining room, seating for 4, a small but fully equipped kitchen . A walk in store room and a toilet. The twin bedroom which has its own shower, is off the lounge.
We welcome our guests to Farncombe to share with you our love of this beautiful countryside and exploring the wonderful Cotswold Area s beautiful villages with the unique architecture and yellow stone which will draw you back time and again to this Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty. We have no street lights but we can see the twinkling lights across the
We see shooting stars and passing satellites and the Milky Way on uncloudy nights. The best rainbows you have ever seen. Bird watching and painting are very popular or just relaxing and reading.
In Clapton we have St. James Church, not only a fine 12th Century building but one of the smallest in the country. The gates are made of horse shoes and make for very interesting and unusual pictures taken through the gate. Logs and electricity is charged at cost during cold weather.

The Central England/Cotswolds region
The Cotswolds is an area of outstanding natural beauty with beautifully preserved natural honey stone houses in villages nestling in rolling countryside.A photographers paradise. Over many years, the area has had very strict rules about buildings being built or repaired, keeping to a strict code so as not to spoil this beautifully unspoilt area of England. Farms and woods compliment the villages making the area a must visit destination.
We have four definite seasons which makes repeat visits even more special.Imagine a quaint stone cottage with spring flowers in a small garden, the sun is shining and the birds are singing and building their nests and you can hear nature because it is so quiet and peaceful. Imagine going to a small local pub and perhaps having a delicious home cooked meal and some local beer. Come back again in the autumn and see the same area with completely different colours.
We have an extremely good network of foot paths where you can get right into the heart of the countryside and see wildlife, fauna and flora and hear very little in the way of mechanical noise. Long distance paths are also a great attraction as well as small town walks of discovery of historical interest.
Bourton on the Water
Bourton-on-the-water has many attractions to suit all ages.2.5 miles away.
Birdland with its King Penguins great fun to watch especially at feeding times.
The Model Village
The Cotswold Motoring Museum the home of BRUM.
The model Railway
The Cotswold Perfumery
Dragon Fly maze.
Plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms.
You can pick up a picnic and walk to Lower Slaughter and onto Naunton and the Guitings. Horses are very evident in the landscape with riding schools and race horse training stables. Cheltenham and Stratford race courses are not far. Markets are popular, farmers and street. VIC in Bourton has all local information as do we. Please ask.
