About this location

The Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds lie mainly in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. Famous since medieval times for sheep-rearing and wool production they are now designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The magic of the Cotswolds is particularly enhanced by the architecture. Numerous charming, unspoiled villages built in locally quarried golden stone and weathered by age, delight the senses. Tourist attractions, National Trust properties, enticing shops, fine restaurants, and cosy, traditional inns with roaring fires welcome visitors from all over the world.

Bourton-on-the-Water, one of the most famous and prettiest villages of the Cotswolds is located at the hub of the area so is an ideal base from which to explore. Known as "The Venice of the Cotswolds" as it is the only one of the six famous Cotswold villages (Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Burfored, Chipping Campden, Moreton-in Marsh, and Stow-on-the-Wold) to have a river meandering through the main street, criss-crossed by small footbridges and populated by wildfowl. On all sides are charming Cotswold buildings of honey-coloured stone, weathered by age and softened by foliage. The centuries roll back and it is easy to envisage the appearance of an English village in a bygone era.

Places of interest in Bourton-on-the-Water include Birdland, the Motor Museum, the Perfumery, the Model Village and the Maze.

"Perfect Cotswolds Cottage break"

We spent 3 fantastic nights here in February. The cottage is everything it claims - and more. It is tastefully decorated, well equipped, warm and comfortable. The downstairs is well set out with a lovely fireplace and the 2 bedrooms are a good size and served by a lovely modern bathroom.
The location couldn't be better - right by the river and no more than 5 minutes walk to all the main attractions in Bourton-on-the-water.
The village itself is beautiful and we were all (family of 4) well entertained for 3 days. The kids loved Birdland, the model village and the motor museum and we were spoiled for places to eat. We would highly recommend L'Anatra, The Croft and particularly Smiths of Bourton for tea and cake in beautiful surroundings.
Margaret was very helpful with booking and advice. We will be back!

Very many thanks for your lovely review. We truly appreciate your kind words.

A beautiful little cottage in a perfect position. I have mobility problems but I was still able to walk into the village. The cottage was clean and well equipped . . Could do with a couple of champagne flutes! It was decorated for Christmas with a welcoming wreath on the door and the fire completed the atmosphere. We would definitely visit again.

Thank you sincerely for submitting such a kind and warm review.
We are glad you enjoyed Christmas time there - and we'll take heed of your comment regarding champagne flutes! Hope you return!

"Small, cosy and lovely in middle of Bourton village"

Small, cosy but lovely living room. Very small kitchen but well equipped and adequate to cook all meals - including Christmas turkey and lunch for 8!
Twin bedroom on second floor - light and a reasonable size.
Suitable for one dog - lovely walks across fields start from a footpath about 50 yards away
Coffee shops and gift shops etc - just round the corner
Mobile phone reception - patchy and no internet
Lovely for short breaks at any time of year

We are delighted to receive your lovely review and our compliments on doing all that cooking in the very modestly sized kitchen! We do appreciate your taking time to submit your warm reflections on Cosy Cottage.

"A truly cosy cottage"

We stayed as a family of four at cosy cottage for a few days just before Christmas. It was an ideal "get away from it all" break. The owners had "Christmas decorated" the cottage and it gave the cottage a "cosy" feel. The cottage has several appeals to us. Firstly, it's location was ideal...a hop and skip from the centre of the village...lovely. The location is quiet too. Secondly, the lounge with it's inglenook fire was truly relaxing. The fire really does look and feel like a real fire but with the convenience of being gas. Thirdly, the cottage is well equipped and never cold. I was able to make meals and found I had all the utensils that I needed.
Finally both the bathroom and kitchen seem relatively updated and very clean.
The only room for improvement would be that we had only one towel each and two each would have felt more suitable.
Overall would very much recommend.

Many thanks for taking time to submit a very kind review of Cosy Cottage.
We note your comment about the towels and can only apologise. We do just put out one towel per guest although there are more in the open cupboard on the stairs which doubles as a wardrobe and linen store and you would have been welcome to help yourself to more from there. We're sorry about that.

"Very cosy, very comfortable"

This cottage is not large. There is not a lot of space, but instead it has a great layout, which makes it easy to live in. There are all the comforts that you need and the bathroom upstairs is a nice size for such a small cottage. The best part is that is really is very cosy! And there is a courtyard where you can sit and enjoy the sun (if it is there). This was the best cottage we stayed in while in England. Can recommend!

Many thanks for your very kind review.

"A wonderful stay."

Cosy cottage is a lovely small house in a stunning setting. This was our first visit to the area and we will certainly be back. We took a trip into Oxford and thoroughly enjoyed the Morse Tour provide… More

Dear Mr. C: Thank you for your lovely review indicating you had liked Cosy Cottage. Nevertheless I did phone to discuss with you the overall rating you gave us - which was 4 out of 5 - as we wondered where we had fallen short. You explained that the reason you gave this score was that there were no washer/dryer facilities but that otherwise you were very happy with the cottage. I am very sorry about this as we DO have a washer and dryer which guests can use in our utility room in the outhouse in the garden - but we had failed to include this information in the guidebook so you did not know and were left with wet clothes and no-where to dry them after an outing. We will rectify this quickly, make the location of the utility room clear - and thank you for the feedback.

"Cute and Comfortable in the heart of the Cotswolds"

This is a small traditional Cotswold cottage situated in a quiet cul-de-sac , by the river in the centre of Bourton -on - the water. On arrival we found it spotlessly prepared and warm on a very cold day. The living area although small , lived up to the "cosy" label and had a real flame fire to give extra heat and atmosphere. The kitchen area was fully equipped, clean and easy to use.
Upstairs the 2 bedrooms [double and twin] were attractive and although still small , more than adequate for 4 people [say 2 adults and 2 kids]. The bathroom was modern , warm and again spotless.
The central position is a real plus , morning papers and breakfast supplies just a 2 minute stroll over the picturesque bridge.
An ideal rental from which to explore the Cotswolds.

We really appreciate your very kind review. Thank you!

"Excellent location"

The good points - the cottage is in the most beautiful setting and is indeed a really short walk to the beautiful centre of Bourton on the Water. The fire is lovely, the bed is very comfortable and t… More

We are extremely sorry to hear you were not happy with the cleanliness of some of the kitchenware on arrival and can only explain that, because it was Christmas, our regular housekeeper was away and we had a subsititute for your visit who did not do the usual job in the kitchen much to our disappointment. I have spoken to you and you assured me that the rest of the property, baths, beds etc. was clean so we hope that your comments can be taken in the context of this and our other reviews which are all complimentary about the cleanliness and condition of the cottage. Our apologies too if the notices about no pets on furniture and careful rubbish disposal offended - we wish we did not have to post those reminders. The rubbish is only collected every 2 weeks and they refuse to take it if it is not sorted correctly -as we have found in the past to our dismay. We are only a phone call/text away from guests so if problems are encountered we are always glad to sort them right away.
