Just 200m from the town of Montrichard and facing south, so enjoying marvellous sunshine for most of the day.

Tastefully restored using local craftsmen, this charming property offers:

La Maison (sleeps 5):

The front door opens into a fully fitted, modern, kitchen where many original features have been retained. There is a gas hob and full size integrated eye level, electric oven/grill, a refrigerator and a dishwasher.

A wide, hand crafted, stone archway leads to the large open plan dining and sitting rooms with the focal chimney breast, built in a local style, using recovered stone from the rest of the property. Traditional, 'French' double doors lead from the sitting room to the terrace.

The dining room has exposed beams and original, quarry tiled, floor and is furnished with a traditional French table and chairs. Soft furnishings in the sitting room have been sourced in England as well as France and give a cosmopolitan comfortable 'feel' to the room. WiFi is available and there is a TV with video player and a CD player/radio for guests to use. 'Free to Air' satellite programmes can be viewed and a wide range of videos and CD's are there for you to choose from. In addition there is an iPod/iPhone speaker.

A bespoke oak staircase, fabricated locally, leads from the kitchen to the upper floor.

There are two cosy, charming, bedrooms:

The 'Blue' room features a comfortable double bed, plenty of storage and has its own, modern, bathroom with original curved beams. There is a bath(shower over), loo and basin.

A practical, en-suite bathroom with modern walk in shower a loo and basin leads to the larger, second bedroom which also has curved beams. There are twin beds which can be linked together as a double bed if preferred and antique English furniture. An English style shaver point and a hairdryer for there for guests use.

Garden furniture is supplied and there is a bar-b-que available for all to use.

Le Cottage (sleeps 3):

A cosy, romantic hideaway at the rear of the site with a comfortable, beamed bedroom and luxury bathroom with bath(shower over), loo and antique pedestal basin. The bathroom has an English style shaver point and a hairdryer is supplied.

A stone spiral staircase leads to the ground floor with a fully fitted, well equipped, kitchen having a full size electric oven, refrigerator and a small dishwasher.

The adjacent, comfortable, living room is through an archway and has a glazed door leading to the secluded terrace. There is WiFi, 'Free to Air' satellite TV with video player plus a CD player/radio and a selection of videos and CD's for guests use. In addition there is an iPod/iPhone speaker.

The whole property: 36 Rue De Blois (sleeps 8)

As ideal for mixed age holiday makers as it is for three couples! The two terraces can be integrated and there is plenty of room in La Maison for all to eat and socialise while having the second, self contained area, allows for privacy for those in Le Cottage. From watching a different video/programme, having a quiet kip, to creating a play area, all needs are catered for!

It should be noted that we are on a main road and there is some traffic noise. We think that this is the norm for any house only 200m from the centre a town that offers a true experience of the French way of life!

The Centre region

Montrichard is situated in the 'Centre' region of France (Department 41 - Loir et Cher).

Located in the Loire Valley area which is a World heritage site, Montrichard is within easy reach of Paris and has much to offer the visitor at any time of the year.

· Easy access by Road, Rail and Air.

· Super Climate, warm and sunny for much of the year and clear, crisp days in the Winter

The town and surrounding area has much to offer:

· Plentiful Bars & Restaurants with superb food

· A variety of shops and supermarkets

· Markets twice a week on Monday afternoon and Friday morning

· Trips on beautiful River Cher

· Gentle Countryside suitable for walking, cycling and driving

· A riverside beach with pedaloes and canoes for hire

· Scenic walks in the 'Foret de Montrichard'

· Cycle hire and off road tracks

· Train service to Tours (Paris just over an hour from Tours) and Vierzon

· Two local Negociants and many small producers for Wine tastings

· Superb Chateaux to view

· Fishing, Tennis and Golf nearby

· A very relaxing and typically French atmosphere

The Keep was founded by Foulques Nerra (Duke of Anjou), Mary Queen of Scots (Mary Stuart) is associated with the town and legend has it that Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned here during his captivity in France.

The River Cher formed an important barrier during World War II between Occupied France to the North and Free (Vichy) France to the South. For some of the War the nearby 'Chateau de Chissay' was the headquarters for Generale de Gaule because of its strategic position.

"Overall, comfortable, spacious & well situated for exploring the Loire valley."

Service of the owner the best my wife has experienced. House on fairly busy main road, not attractive from the outside. Close to town centre. Very spacious, upstairs has very low beams and doorways - … More

"Great accommodation in an ideal location."

We had a fantastic stay in the Loire Valley thanks to finding this wonderful accommodation at the last minute. Patricia was amazingly helpful, responding to emails quickly and providing us with directions from Tours airport as well as a lovely welcome hamper of local foods, wine and beers. We booked La Maison which is beautifully furnished and decorated with an eclectic feel. It has a well equipped kitchen and a spacious living/dining area with french doors opening onto the garden. The boys (8 and 11 years) had great fun in the splash pool while we soaked up the sun reclining on the loungers after breakfast each day before heading off to one of the chateaux which are all within easy driving distance of the property. We had fantastic days out in Blois, Amboise, Chenonceaux and Loches, the boys particularly enjoyed La Clos du Luce (last home of Leonardo da Vinci) and Loches, both being exceptional value for money with lots to entertain children (interactive models of Leonardo's inventions & falconry, musicians, stilt-walkers and fire-breathers at Loches). Montrichard itself is a beautiful, historic town with markets, shops, restaurants and a 'beach' on the River Cher where you could happily spend a day swimming and sunbathing while the children have fun in the playground or mini funfair - you can also hire kayaks etc at very reasonable rates. The only issue you may have with the house is the restricted head height in the main bathroom but this is to be expected in a property of character and the second bathroom is perfectly adequate. Also, there is persistent road noise through the night, but this is a very small price to pay for being able to stroll into town in the morning to buy beautiful fresh croissants and bread - it really wasn't an issue for us - we soon got used to it and the quality of the accommodation far outweighed any mild inconvenience. I would whole-heartedly recommend staying at this property and, although we didn't see inside Le Cottage, I would imagine it would be perfect if you were a family wanting to holiday with grandparents as you would each have your own space. The quality of the towels and bedding should also be mentioned as they really were excellent. All in all a fantastic place to stay - I only wish we had been able to stay for a fortnight rather than a week - thanks Patricia - Salut!
