The Centre region

The Val de Cher is famous for the chateaux - lovely castles built from the local white stone in our village Bourre. Visit Chenonceaux just along the river, also Chambord, Amboise, Azay le Rideau, Villandry and many more lovely historic buildings.

Our region is also famous for the wines, sauvignon, gamay and carbernet franc. The most famous local wine is Vouvray made from Chenin Blanc and Chinon from Cabernet France. We are only two hours by Autoroute from Sancerre.

This is an all the year round location. Summers are hot (around 25-30) and winters cold (can be below zero - but enjoy our log fire and the local cheese and wine).

Montrichard is a busy little market town with all the facilities you require, a market on Fridays, good restaurants and good supermarkets.

Bourre is a small village with a bar, butcher, grocer and baker and a pharmacy. We are almost on the river and you will enjoy walks along the tow path as well as walks in the woods of Montrichard which are close by.

"The best we have experienced"

My wife and I spent all of July '14 in France, in six different places, some hotels, and some cottages. La Grange was simply in a class by itself. The location on the hill with the view over th… More

Thank you, so pleased you have had a lovely holiday and that you enjoyed our cottage so much. You didn't mention Madame who loves to look after our guests and often brings fresh vegetables from her garden, she is a gem! We shall look forward to your coming again!

"location perfect, fantastic nearby support , wonderful views"

We arrived at montrichard train station, it was closed and it was over 30 degrees in heat. The Super U car hire place wasn't obvious to us so some prior understanding is required. The information that Anne sends is fantastic but did cause us some confusion. You definately need a car because the buses are not reliable. Bike hire also is necessary. The english speaking support is fantastic and we were lucky enough to meet anne over there and she and her partner were lovely. the cottage was gorgeous and quaint with wonderful views.

Thank you we are glad you enjoyed your stay in our lovely cottage; we have a lovely lady next door who looks after our guests in my absence, the cottage is in the village where you can buy your croissants for breakfast, and 10 minutes drive from the chateau at Chneonceau. So sorry that it was difficult to find a hire car in the heat of the summer - my suggestion for anyone coming by train is to hire a car from AVIS at Tours St Pierre station which is on the TGV route one hour direct from Paris and 30 minutes from the cottage - I will e mail you directions - Ann

"A really nice place and wonderful surroundings"

We had a really nice stay in Loire valley. The house was very nice with a kitchen with good space and everything you need for cooking. We enjoyed all the small villages with markets and good food, and visited a lot of castles. A very nice holiday and we would very much like to return some day.

Thank you particularly we are pleased you liked the kitchen which was hand built by our carpenter with good quality double oven and ceramic hob. There is a washer / drier and fridge freezer too. We are well placed for visiting the Loire Valley Chateaux and vineyards, and we provide bikes for those who enjoy cycling we are within easy reach of the nearest towns and also there is a good path aloingside the River Cher. France is very cyclist friendly and there are new cycle routes this year. Looking forward to seeing you again. Ann

"Wonderful views across the Cher Valley"

Maison la Grange is situated a short walk from the centre of Bourré. The cottage kitchen is well equipped and I can strongly recommend eating dinner on the patio looking across the valley of the Cher along which the village of Bourré is built. The view is stunning! Bourré is a 15 minute cycle ride from Montrichard which has some wonderful cafés and restaurants. There are many Chateaux and Caves to visit in the area including the famous Chenonceaux which is a short drive away.

So pleased you have enjoyed our lovely cottage. The situation is wonderful with fantastic views, the cottage is secluded and not overlooked even by the neighbours in our other cottage. We spent a week recently and enjoyed the swifts flying over us in the evenings, it was like watching the red arrows!

"Charming cottage, excellent location"

Excellent location for touring visitor attractions in the Loire, quiet and remote feeling yet close to good roads. Very well equipped, we wanted for nothing in the kitchen and laundry departments. The property is very characterful. Nearby Montrichard is a good little holiday town if you want a day off driving - you can cycle using the bikes in the mushroom shed or it's 5 mins in the car.

Thank you, so pleased you enjoyed our lovely cottage on the hillside in Bourre, the views are great and the cottage secluded yet as you say convenient for visiting the sights of the Loire Valley. We look forward to welcoming you again and others like you!
