The Dorset region

Bournemouth's popularity as a holiday resort started during Victorian times and has continued to grow so that it now attracts millions of visitors of all ages and nationalities every year. In recent times, Bournemouth has been extensively developed to incorporate casinos, clubs, pubs and an international conference centre. Bistros, bars and family friendly restaurants are much in evidence along the mainly traffic free promenade, and Bournemouth also has a new-look square, with palm trees and mosaics, giving the town a touch of continental chic.

Bournemouth's Beaches

Nestling in a sheltered, pine-fringed bay, Bournemouth is the perfect location for beach and activity holidays for all the family. Several of Bournemouth's beaches do not allow smoking, four miles of the sand are completely dog free and there are designated areas for watersports. Bournemouth's excellent leisure facilities also make it a firm favourite with sports enthusiasts, including those interested in watersports, fishing, horse riding and cycling.

Shopping and Nightlife

Bournemouth has a lively cosmopolitan street scene, with interesting shops and boutiques, and a variety of nightlife and theatres. So whether you like seeing West End shows, stand-up comedy or classical concerts, or dancing the night away at one of the numerous nightclubs, Bournemouth holidays have something for everyone.

Year-Round Events

There's a fully packed calendar of events all year round in Bournemouth, from spectacular fireworks displays to heritage fairs and classic car rallies. Bournemouth's Kids Family Fun Festival offers free entertainment for all ages during the summer school holidays plus there are Flowers by Candlelight on Wednesday evenings during August and fireworks every Friday night during the summer.

Bournemouth is made up of several distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own unique character: Alum Chine and Westbourne, the town centre, Boscombe and Southbourne.

Dorset is one of the most rural counties of England and is situated on the south coast between Devon and Hampshire. To find out more about the interesting places to visit while on holiday in Dorset, click on one of the links to the left. The map of Dorset below shows the locations of Bournemouth, Weymouth, Poole and many other towns in the county.

Bournemouth and its surrounding area is by far the most populous area and it is also the primary holiday destination in Dorset. Close to Bournemouth is the cosmopolitan town of Poole, with its bustling Quay, some of the best beaches in England and a stunning natural harbour. Weymouth is another seaside holiday resort, popular with families because of its safe sandy beach. Dorchester, the county town, is packed full of history and heritage, from Roman relics to the Bloody Assize, the Tolpuddle Martyrs and Thomas Hardy. In the green valleys and wooded hills of the north of the county lies Sherborne, with its famous schools, two castles and magnificent abbey church. To the west is Lyme Regis, the setting for the film The French Lieutenant's Woman, and one of the best locations for fossil hunting. In the heart of rural Dorset is the beautiful Georgian market town of Blandford Forum, which boasts some outstanding architecture, a selection of fascinating museums, shops and galleries, and which is home to the annual Great Dorset Steam Fair.

"Everything was as promised!"

We spent 2 weeks at the apartment at The Broadwalk, and have only positive feedback to give over! The apartment was absolutely immaculate when we arrived! They had even provided brand new bedding for the sofa bed in the main room!! The 2 double beds were so comfortable, that we were actually amazed, because the previous review had suggested the exact opposite, for some unexplainable reason . . so we were actually rather anxious about that, and very satisfied with what was the reality!!
It was clean and bright, and when we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Catherine from the agency, who showed us all we needed to know and took us around the apartment!
It is actually on the small side, but we would definitely recommend it for a family of four, with ample space; we were 5 of us, so it was that bit less roomy!
All in all, no complaints whatsoever, and warmest thanks go to Holiday lettings for all their help from the very start!! A lovely compact holiday apartment! Highly recommended!

"Big on appearance, small on the details"

The apartment was finished tastefully, modern and fresh on appearance but the cleanliness was very questionable. My mother mopped the kitchen and living room space before we felt comfortable enough to settle down. My biggest gripe was the lack of quality where it mattered. After an early start and driving three hours, we were looking forward to retiring. 1) the two double beds were extremely uncomfortable, where the springs of the mattress were felt throughout. It would have made a bit of difference if the mattresses were covered with a mattress pad. With the poor quality linen, too boot, the level of hygiene between used mattresses and our skin, was also a concern: glad we took along own bed linen! 2) The towels were also poor quality. Again, glad we walked with our own.

The property was checked before the arrival and it was in immaculate order.
We note that they cleaned at the end of the visit and the cleaning company would have cleaned after the visit.
