The West Country / Dorset region
The Poole & Bournemouth area has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the finest seaside holiday locations in the UK. It possesses all the ingredients for the perfect family holiday or quiet 'getaway' with miles of multi-award winning sandy beaches, extensive Watersports, stunning countryside, excellent shopping and a wide variety of restaurants, bars, cafes and clubs. Combined with an annual events calendar that now includes Beach Polo at Sandbanks, weekly activities on Poole Quay or Sandbanks beach (with fireworks!) and the Bournemouth Air Festival in August, it's easy to see why many families have been coming for years (indeed, generations).
The area's natural beauty is due in large part to the abundance of wooded parks and other open spaces, that create a 'park' like setting with wooded 'chines' leading down the cliffs to the beaches – there are 7 of these between Sandbanks & Bournemouth alone! Cliff top walks are numerous and provide wonderful views over Poole Bay, from Hengistbury Head in the east, past the Needles at the western tip of the Isle of Wight, across to Old Harry Rocks, marking the eastern tip of the 'Isle of Purbeck'.
To the western edge of the region is Poole Harbour, argued to be the 2nd largest natural harbour in the world (after Sydney)! In excess of 100 miles of coastline form the harbour whose landscape ranges from the National Trust controlled western shores at Studland and Furzey, around to the bustling town and Quay of Poole, along to the Sandbanks peninsula forming the southern and eastern boundary of the harbour. In the harbour is found the historic and beautiful National Trust island of Brownsea, site of the first Scout Camp in 1907 and one of the few remaining homes of the native Red Squirrel. Boats to the island leave from Poole Quay or the tip of the Sandbanks Peninsula.
In addition to a bustling Quay, Poole boasts excellent shopping and cultural activities, with the art centre (Lighthouse) being home to the world famous Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Poole Park offers a range of activities including water sports and a miniature railway.
The formal gardens at Compton Acres in the Canford Cliffs area are a major regional attraction. A short car ride away are the historic towns of Christchurch, Wimborne, Dorchester & Blandford, numerous Dorset villages such as Corfe Castle and Shaftesbury as well as the extensive open spaces of the New Forest.
Further to the west, the Dorset & Devon coasts have been designated a 'World Heritage Site' and this fascinating coastline is now known as the 'Jurassic Coast' for the huge geological periods revealed by the varying cliff and rock formations, as well as a huge variety of fossils that can be found '..just lying around'!
We look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of the South Coast.

Very convenient location for the area but the condition of many of the amenities in the Flat need to be improved and updated quickly as people will expect windows that close, ovens that work, and cooking utensils that are suitable for use. Also future clients need to be made aware that the photo h/w does not show the impending work by Tesco blocking off much of the carpark by panelling and no doubt work starting on site in the near future. |

The flat is situated on the 1st floor of a sixties block above the Sandacres pub, but this wasn't a problem and we weren't disturbed by any noise during our week stay. We arrived to a clean and tidy flat the decor and furniture is a little dated but the flat has all the mod cons for a comfortable stay. The best feature is the view across Poole harbour and Brown Sea Island and for watching the water sports and sea birds at low tide. Parking in the allocated parking bay can be challenging especially if you have a large car and other vehicles are parked in their allocated spaces. The flat is ideally located for the beach and local stores and restaurants also the local bus services to Poole, Bournemouth and Swanage pass by the flat. We enjoyed our stay and even the weather was bright and sunny. Response: The public house below the Sandacres apartments has since closed down |
