The Dorset region

Bournemouth is a vibrant and popular town with a variety of restaurants, shops, entertainment and its miles of renowned blue flag sandy beaches. Beautifully landscaped gardens lead though the centre of the town to the pier, BIC, Oceanarium and other attractions.

You're sure to find plenty to do while exploring the biggest resort in Dorset with endless attractions and activities offering all year around entertainment.

Take in some crisp sea air on a pier to pier walk along the promenade from Bournemouth to Boscombe Pier. Reward yourself with a bite to eat at one of the fabulous seaside cafes and restaurants once you've reached your destination.

Enjoy an evening out with some live entertainment. Bournemouth has plenty for all you culture lovers with some of the best entertainment venues around. The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and the Pavilion Theatre offer live entertainment from children's shows and comedy to ballet and ice dancing.

Bournemouth Pier

Take a nostalgic trip down memory lane and enjoy a traditional trip to the seaside and hire your very own beach hut. Beach huts are a very British tradition that actually originated in Bournemouth in 1908; you can even rent the oldest

The famously upmarket area of Sandbanks in Poole is approximately a 20 minute drive from Bournemouth and its white sandy beaches, palms and stunning coastline should be seen. A visit to Poole Quay with its many fine restaurants, boats and marina and under cover shopping centre make for a very pleasant day out.

A ferry from Sandbanks can also be taken across to Brownsea Island and to Studland and historic Corfe Castle.

The beautiful New Forest is within easy driving distance and here will be found quaint little shops, olde inns, tea rooms and roaming New Forest ponies. The village of Burley is particularly popular and the surrounding areas of Brockenhurst, Lymington and Lyndhurst (to name just three) are all delightful. The world famous Beulieu motor museum is also within driving distance as are other 'must see' places too numerous to specify.

In Bournemouth you will find an abundance of leisure activities. There are a number of Tennis Courts and Clubs of International repute; many Bowling Alleys and not least of all Golf Courses. So you can bring your irons. There is also, of course, Surfing and swimming. The Horse Riding Schools will appeal to the equestrians.

The dry run ski centre at Christchurch with its many associated activities is also well worth a visit and a stroll along the beautiful River Stour (stopping at the Old Mill gift shop and tea rooms) takes you to the historic 10th century Christchurch Priory and castle ruins. For the children, a visit to Alice in Wonderland (opposite Bournemouth International airport) is a wonderful way to spend a day.

"Tastefully decorated cottage set in tranquil grounds"

The cottage was situated in the grounds of an old manor house. The large garden is full of trees and shrubs and there are picnic tables where you can sit out and have dinner alfresco. The interior of the cottage is beautifully decorated, the owner has made a huge effort with the furniture, which was modern and stylish. The kitchen and bathrooms are very nicely decorated, there is a downstairs cloakroom which was very useful and the property was very clean throughout. If you do not have a car, the cottage is near bus stops where the buses are very frequent into town and to Boscombe. The bus service is very good, we visited Swanage, Christchurch, Westbourne and Poole easily by bus. There is an open top bus to Swanage. The cottage is less than a 8 minute walk to the beach and can walk into town via this way. We travelled by train and found that the station was less than 10 minutes away. Asda is very near by and there is Sainsbury's in Boscombe. The cottage was very warm and the central heating was programmed to come on day and night. The owner was very warm and friendly and I would recommend this cottage.

"Such a great location with stunning rooms"

I stayed at Shell cottage with my partner and my 2 children, 6 months old girl and 7 year old son. I must say the the accommodation is of the highest standard and the cleanliness is spotless, we stayed for a long weekend and had a fantastic time, Bournemouth is a great place and we had a fantastic time. I would just like to thank Mrs Lazenby the owner who helped out with local information and helping us plan our days out, Splashdown at Tower Park swimming pool is amazing, my son loved the slides. All in all a fantastic break and most of all the cottage was perfect, we will be back next spring for another break.

This could have been a very enjoyable stay as the location and setting of the holiday homes is lovely. Unfortunately the poor cleanliness, lack of equipment i.e 4 cups for 6 people, too few glass and a dishwasher that didn't work, along with the attitude of the owner upon complaint made for a less than perfect stay. We also had difficulty in getting our security deposit returned.

This view does not reflect the opinions and experiences of our other guests. We have many happy guests who return to our cottage year after year.
