Enquire nowThe West Country / Dorset region
Dorset is famous for the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, which features landforms such as Lulworth Cove, the Isle of Portland, Chesil Beach and Durdle Door, as well as the holiday resorts of Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth, Swanage, and Lyme Regis.
Dorset is the principal setting of the novels of Thomas Hardy, who was born near Dorchester. The county has a long history of human settlement and some notable archaeology, including the hill forts of Maiden Castle and Hod Hill. Bournemouth lies in the heart of Dorset on the south coast.
Bournemouth is a “shoppers paradise” with most of the town centre being pedestrianised and offering shops, boutiques, beauty salons, restaurants, cafes and coffee shops, perfect for some well deserved retail therapy. In the evening there is a real buzz in Bournemouth, the town is renowned for being a stylish evening out with over 250 restaurants to chose from, and if its a cocktail or a glass of wine and some dancing you are in the mood for then you truly are spoilt for choice -there's a whole host of bars, nightclubs, pubs and wine bars on offer.
The breathtaking Dorset coastline offers everything from picturesque harbours, long sandy beaches, dramatic cliff top formations, hidden coves and rock pools.
The Jurassic Coast is England's only natural World Heritage Site, and is a walker’s paradise. Of equal appeal to the walker is the New Forest, England's newest National Park, but steeped in history.
Poole Harbour is a stunning location for all types of watersport. The harbour and it's islands offer a haven for wildlife including the bird sanctuary on the world renowned Brownsea Island.
The Bournemouth / Southbourne area
Southbourne is a suburb of Bournemouth situated on the cliffs between Boscombe and Christchurch and is a peaceful holiday location located away from the hustle and bustle of Bournemouth. The location provides easy access into Bournemouth Town Centre either by car or bus.
The Southbourne Cliff tops have a very popular children's play park and fabulous views sweeping from the Isle of Wight across Poole Bay to the Isle of Purbeck and there are several Pubs, Restaurants and Cafes offering outdoor seating for you to watch the sunset. The “zig zag” paths lead down to the beautiful sandy bathing beaches perfect for sun bathing, swimming or dog walking. The beach runs from Hengistbury Head just to the east, all the way past Bournemouth to Sandbanks in the west, with a path / cycleway running all the way along the shorefront.
Southbourne Grove, the main area of Southbourne, has a long shopping street that has some unique and individual shops rather than high street chain shops. Shops include a butcher, a bakery, numerous cafés, hairdressers, convenience stores, home wares, gift shops and the post office.
Just a mile to the east Christchurch has a great choice of restaurants, centred around it's historic Priory church.
One tourist feature of Southbourne is the Fisherman's Walk Cliff Railway, a funicular railway between the clifftop coastal road and the promenade and beach. This provides very easy access to Southbourne's Blue Flag beach, from which it is possible to reach the beaches at Boscombe and Bournemouth.
At Hengistbury Head there is a golf course, and nature walks and kite flying is a very popular activity with championship flying all year round. A leisurely walk or a trip on the land train will bring you to Mudeford Beach huts where you can get the passenger boat ferry across to Mudeford where there are family holiday attractions and facilities.
This really is a fabulous holiday location with plenty to do.

This stunning apartment gave my family an amazing home from home experience. The apartment was immaculate and large. There was nothing lacking at all. we have had over 20 years of holidays with children and this apartment was by far the best facility we have encountered. Sea views included. We walked down to the sea front within 4 minutes. Churchfield Holiday lettings staff showed professionalism and helpfulness l throughout our communication. Do not take my word for how awesome this facility is...Book your own break right now...you will not be disappointed, |

The apartment had everything we needed and is furnished to a very high standard. Family friendly and would recommend to others without hesitation. The main bedroom bed frame squeaks a lot but I'm sure the owners will rectify this. High quality matresses on all beds and this requires only a minor fix. No dedictaed Wi-Fi but open connection avialble locally during our stay. |
