The holiday complex at La Borderie has been running for 18 years and offers self catering in a lovely rural setting at 700m altitude surrounded by forests and farmland. La Fournil is a compact, pretty independant stone cottage. Originally a bake house but now converted to accommodate a family of 4 with 2 sub teenage children.
Holidays at La Borderie are about enjoying the peace, tranquility and calm of a lovely unspoiled corner of France perhaps one of the last areas to retain the feel of a bygone era. The area is perfect for all outdoor activities including walking, cycling birdwatching and fishing.

The Limousin / Auvergne / Creuse region
The Creuse is the least populated departments in France and traditionally has suffered from depopulation due to workers leaving the area to seek work in the larger towns and cities of France. The traditional "mettier" or trade in the Creuse is stone masonry and the "masons de la Creuse" are famous throughout France as they constructed many of the wonderful buildings of Paris, Lyon and Marseille returning to their families in the Creuse in winter after a summer of work and probably wine.
The predominant activity in our area is forestry and the pine forests of the Creuse are some of the largest in France. Wild life including deer, pine martin, otter, wild pig is abundant in the forest. The climate in winter is harsh with frequent snow but Summers will normally be hot and an extended Autumn allows mushroom gatherers to reap an abundant harvest. Leave the traffic behind you and enjoy the peace calm and tranquility of one of the most unspoilt regions in all of Europe!
Bourganeuf area
Royere de Vassiviere is a delightful little town which comes alive in Summer as the French and increasingly now the British flock to the lake to enjoy water sports of every type. The many beaches on the lake never feel crowded as the sheer size of the lake, 35 kms in circumference mean that one can always find a secluded spot. There is a boat which offers lake "cruises" which includes lunch and frequently an accordianist who will play for dancing.
There is a very good bar at Royere which has live bands most weekends in the summer and also a shop selling local produce. Aubuson and Fellitan 20kms from us are the traditional centres of tapestry weaving in France and guided tours of workshops and museum visits are well worth while. A very popular activity now is the Arbe en Arbe treetop assault course constructed 2 years ago which is an exiciting and challenging day for all the family. Local markets at Bouganeuf (wednesdays) and Royere (tuesdays) are well worth a visit.
How to get there
There are frequent inexpensive flights into Limoges from Stanstead, East Midlands, Liverpool, Southampton with Flybee and Ryanair.
To drive to us you need to pick up the A20 from Orleans and exit left at La Souteraine at junction 23. Continue 16 Kms and turn right onto the D912 and go through Grand Bourg continueing on to Bourganeuf where you take the D8 towards Royere de Vassiviere. After 12 Kms at the village of Le Compeix turn left following our sign for La Borderie and Chambres d'hote. Keeping left at the first intersecion you will find us at the end of the road after 2 Kms

Further details indoors: There is a bedroom with double bed for the parents and a mezanine sleeping area with 2 beds for the children. In the salon there is a woodburning stove and a newly installed kitchenette with fridge, combination micro/oven/grill and electric hob and sink. Adjacent to to the parents bedroom is the shower and toilet . In general the accommodation is compact but provides very good value for a family of 4 with sub teenage children . As we are situated at the end of the road ,traffic is very limited making it particularly safe for children.
Further details outdoors: To the rear of the fournil is a terrace area opening onto a private garden with stone picnic table garden chairs and loungers and barbeque area. The garden is enclosed and sheltered and iprovides a shady retreat on a hot summers day.

We ask for a deposit when making a reservation normally a £100 for a weekly stay with the balance payable 4 weeks before on arrival. We ensure that the accommodation is clean when you arrive and that basics such as bread, milk and eggs will be in the fridge and we will welcome you with tea coffee wine or beer.
Conditions
We can provide you with a cleaning service if you do not have the time to clean the Fournil before you leave (25 euros)

The Fournil has a wood burning stoves and fire wood is provided for a suplement of 25 euros for the week. We ask for a deposit for weekly reservations of £100 paid into our UK bank account and the balance paid 4 weeks before arrival. We can accept cheques (euro or sterling) cash but we do not accept bankers cards.
