Home description
La Borderie is a renovated Creuisois traditional stone built farm house. The 7 person gite is attached to the main house and was originally a barn. There is also a converted bread oven or "Fournil" available for rent for 4 people.
The house is situated at the end of a lane in a small hamlet just 2km from the village of Le Compeix. The house sits in 1/2 hectare of of lawns and gardens and all of the vegetables served to our diners are grown by us. The location is ideal for all outdoor activities such as walking ,cycling, fishing, bird watching and all water activities at the magnificent Lac de Vassiviere just 10 km away

The Limousin / Auvergne / Creuse region
The Creuse is the least populated departments in France and traditionally has suffered from depopulation due to workers leaving the area to seek work in the larger towns and cities of France. The traditional "mettier" or trade in the Creuse is stone masonry and the "masons de la Creuse" are famous throughout France as they constructed many of the wonderful buildings of Paris, Lyon and Marseille returning to their families in the Creuse in winter after a summer of work and probably wine.
The predominant activity in our area is forestry and the pine forests of the Creuse are some of the largest in France. Wild life including deer, pine martin, otter, wild pig is abundant in the forest. The climate in winter is harsh with frequent snow but Summers will normally be hot and an extended Autumn allows mushroom gatherers to reap an abundant harvest. Leave the traffic behind you and enjoy the peace calm and tranquility of one of the most unspoilt regions in all of Europe!
Bourganeuf / Royere de Vassiviere area
Royere de Vassiviere is a delightful little town which comes alive in Summer as the French and increasingly now the British flock to the lake to enjoy water sports of every type. The many beaches on the lake never feel crowded as the sheer size of the lake, 35 kms in circumference mean that one can always find a secluded spot. There is a boat which offers lake "cruises" which includes lunch and frequently an accordianist who will play for dancing.
There is a very good bar at Royere which has live bands most weekends in the summer and also a shop selling local produce. Aubuson and Fellitan 20kms from us are the traditional centres of tapestry weaving in France and guided tours of workshops and museum visits are well worth while. A very popular activity now is the Arbe en Arbe treetop assault course constructed 2 years ago which is an exiciting and challenging day for all the family. Local markets at Bouganeuf (wednesdays) and Royere (tuesdays) are well worth a visit.
How to get there
There are frequent inexpensive flights into Limoges from Stanstead, East Midlands, Liverpool, Southampton with Flybee and Ryanair.
To drive to us you need to pick up the A20 from Orleans and exit left at La Souteraine at junction 23. Continue 16 Kms and turn right onto the D912 and go through Grand Bourg continueing on to Bourganeuf where you take the D8 towards Royere de Vassiviere. After 12 Kms at the village of Le Compeix turn left following our sign for La Borderie and Chambres d'hote. Keeping left at the first intersecion you will find us at the end of the road after 2 Kms

Further details indoors: The gite consistes of a salon with wood burning stove a kitchen with all ameneties, a bathroom with bath and shower, and a separate downstairs toilet. The are 3 good size bedrooms upstairs and a toilet also.
The Gite is equipped with washing machine, dishwasher cooker microwave and separate oven, TV with video and DVD. The gite is very traditional in style with stone walls and floors as we have tried to preserve the original features while also adding as many conveniences and comforts as possible
Further details outdoors: Marian and Tim Pearson welcome you to the beautiful, tranquil setting of their “Gites de la Borderie”. Located at the edge of the National park of the Millevaches, our tiny hamlet is 700 metres above sea level. The pure air will refresh and revitalize you. The countryside around La Borderie is perfect for walking and riding. There are good equestrian centres catering for all abilities. The rivers teem with fish, making this an angler’s paradise. Birdwatchers and lovers of wild unspoiled countryside will not be disappointed.
This part of the Creuse is still undiscovered by hoards of tourists and driving is still a pleasure, making trips to historic towns, local markets and places of interest an enjoyable day out. Limoges, famous for its porcelain is only l hour away. Bourganeuf, founded in the 12 century by the Knights Templars, is only l5 minutes drive. Aubusson and Fellitin, the medieval centres of tapestry weaving are within easy reach through beautiful countryside.
The Lac de Vassivier, is a man-made lake of over 1000 hectares, and is just 10 minutes drive from La Borderie. The lake caters for all water sports including swimming, sailing, water-skiing and windsurfing. An island at the centre of the lake has a sculpture park and modern art gallery. Many restaurants and cafes line the lakeside and lake cruises are available in Summer.
Ryanair have cheap daily flights from Stanstead to Limoges. You can pick up a hire car at Limoges Airport and be with us in just over an hour. We look forward to welcoming you to this special part of France.
Further details
Holidays at La Borderie are normally from Saturday to Saturday (arriving in the afternoon and leaving before midday) But we can always be flexible if bookings allow. We wil always be here to welcome you with a cup of tea, glass of wine or beer. The fridge normally will contain some basics such as eggs milk and bread but a Champion supermarket is located nearby in Bourganeuf on your way through to us.
We ensure that the gite is clean when you arrive and do ask our guests to leave it in the same way but if you do not have time we will provide a cleaning service for a 25 euro suplement.
All sheets, bedding and towells are provided but please bring your own towells for the beach.
Conditions
We ask for a 100 euro (or equivalent in sterling) deposit when making a reservation with the balance payable on arrival.

Both properties have wood burning stoves and fire wood is provided for a suplement of 25 euros for the week. We ask for a deposit for weekly reservations of £100 paid into our UK bank account and the balance paid in euros on arrival. We can accept cheques (euro or sterling) cash but we do not accept bankers cards.
