Gite | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
*** Please note that our prices are now quoted in POUNDS STERLING rather than euros ***
Built approximately 200 years ago, our south-facing detached stone gite has a lovely sunny patio and is located in the quiet and secluded commune of St Junien la Bregere in Creuse. It's ideal for a relaxing, rural break at any time of year and is perfect for walking holidays, with beautiful scenery right on your doorstep.
If you need to get into town, we're half way between Bourganeuf in Creuse and Peyrat le Chateau in Haute Vienne, both about 15 to 20 minutes by car on the D940.
The cottage has been completely renovated and sleeps up to four people, in two double-bedded bedrooms. The cottage retains many of its original features and combines traditional French living with modern comforts. There is electric heating throughout.
Set on three floors, the cottage opens into a spacious living and dining area, complete with a fully-fitted kitchen, including a washing machine and fridge freezer. The dining table seats eight - just in case you have visitors - and there are two occasional chairs for watching television, which has UK TV and radio channels.
On the first floor, we have the first bedroom, with double bed, chest of drawers and hanging space. Next door is a modern bathroom, with a bathtub and shower over, wc and wash basin.
The larger of the two double bedrooms, also with a double bed, occupies the whole of the top floor, with ample hanging and storage space.
Outside, the front of the cottage makes a sheltered sun-trap, with a south-west facing garden to the side. Off-road parking is available opposite.

The Limousin/Auvergne region
Limousin was at the heart of the French resistance during the second world war, and the village of Oradour-sur-Glane has been left untouched as a permanent memorial following the massacre of its 642 inhabitants in 1944.
The area is rich in arts and crafts - Limoges is renowned for porcelain and enamel, whilst Aubusson is famed for its tapestries and custom-made carpets.
The pretty medieval town of St Leonard de Noblat and the market town of Eymoutiers, from where you can catch the train to Limoges, both make for a pleasant afternoon out.
For something quite different, try Le Labyrinthe, the world’s largest maze at Gueret, which also has picnic areas and a giant chess board.
The area’s greatest attraction is undoubtedly Lac de Vassivière, about 20 minutes away by car. The smaller lakes of St Hélène and Bujaleuf are also nearby. There is a golf course in Bourganeuf, and a tennis court is available for hire in St Junien la Brégère. We also have some bicycles for guests to use.
Depending on the season, fishing is available nearby.
For shopping, Bourganeuf and Peyrat-le-Chateau are both about five miles away, with the usual amenities including cafés, restaurants, banks and post offices.
For eating out, we can provide details of some local restaurants.
More recently, we have discovered that Montayaud is on the ancient pilgrim route, la Route de Compostelle, which runs south to the beautiful medieval walled city of Rocamadour in Corrèze.
