About the home
François and Anne Decroocq offer you a very warm welcome and look forward to seeing you throughout the year, summer and winter. A purpose-built cottage in Nord Pas de Calais. We are in a wonderful location on a working dairy farm, just 25 minutes from the Channel Tunnel and the ferry at Calais.
It's a new house built in 2005 of 100 square meter around the garden. At the ground floor you have a big kitchen/dining/lounge room around a log fire.
The cottage is 15 minutes to the most marvellous sandy beaches and 10 minutes to Boulogne, with its historic warred and fine restaurants.

At the first floor, you have main room and the first room, you have 2 rooms and 1 bathroom.

The cottage have a private terrace with a direct acces to the shared garden with the only other cottage of the property.
From the terrace with a south exposition you can see our Horses in the meadow. On the other side of the cottage you a parking place and a direct view on our dairy farm with the cow's meadow at the first plan and the english coast at the skyline.

We rent our cottage either by week, work week (Monday to Friday), or weekend (Friday to Monday).
During the summer season and Christmas holidays the rental proposed is only by week (Saturday from Saturday).
Reservation can be done by e-mail and is confirmed by reception of 25% account and firmed contract.
The Northern France / Nord-Pas-de-Calais region
The region of Pas-de-Calais is certainly under rated by some but definitely merits an extended stay in an area which is rich in history and natural beauty. It has an astonishing legacy of beautiful residences, many feudal castles, walled cities, memorials to Napoleon, the well known second world war museum at Ambleteuse, and the English cemetery at Wimille. As a base, it offers easy links to Le Touquet, Paris and Bruges. Not least, its close proximity to the channel ports and Eurotunnel makes it a very worthwhile area to spend a relaxing holiday.
You will also discover that the Opal coast with its fine golden beaches, is perfect for young children and rock-pooling, with extensive sand dunes and the wonderful countryside of St Omer and Montreuil. The more adventurous will enjoy wind surfing and sand yachting at le Touquet
The Boulogne sur Mer / Wimille area
The close by town of Wimille is located in the centre of "La cote d'Opale", which itself stretches from Calais to Berck sur mer and offers a wide diversity of coast line, sometimes sandy, sometime rocky and always fascinating. Further inland the country side is hilly and wooded.
The ancient walled town of Boulogne sur Mer is still France's largest fishing port and is only 5 km easy drive from the cottages. Visitors will enjoy the local fish market on the quay and a well spent day in Nausicca, the largest indoor sea museum in Europe. Wimereux (2,5 Km) is a great place for wind surfing and kite surfing.
For the country lovers, there are 2 golf courses close to the cottage (Wimereux 10 mins, Hardelot 25min), as well many country walks around the cottage.

5 minutes from the A16 motorway, take the out n° 33 Wimille, Wimereux nord.
Take direction "Wimille centre" until the second roundabout.
Take on your left, you pass under the motorway and directly take on your right to follow direction of "Rupembert" (D237).
Follow this road during 2km (1,3 miles) until your arrived in Rupembert.
You take the first road on your left with "Olincthun".
Continue during 100 meter before you see the cottage on your right.

Was already expecting a nice gite from the pictures on both the owners website and others. What we couldn't have expected was the size of the gite and just how much there was in it. A fully equipped kitches - the number of pots/pans etc was superb (including a kitchen mixer!!!), 10 of everything (in a 5 bed cootage I was expecting 5 of everything). Rooms much larger than the pictures suggest - could quite easily be 3 bedroom and still have room to spare. Washer, iron, ironing board, large maiden, means you don't need to take a whole host of clothes (unless you don't want to be domesticated - not a problem for me) Very friendly family own the gite - although my slightly better than pigeon French was tested a few times as their English is pretty non-existant. Good fun though. Drawbacks - none really although a DVD player may be handy. There is only French TV available for lazy evenings. No great problem though as we had a lap top with music and there is is free wi-fi meaning that english radion stations were also accessible. Nice to chill out with a book and a good red wine. Boulogne is only 5 mins drive away but may well as be 50 since this is really country-fide. Need to remember to get bread and pastries for morning the day before although the nearest hypermarkets (Auchan and a Carrefour) are within a couple of minutes drive and the bakers is in Wimille also less than 5 mins away if you fancy an early morning ride out. Would definately return if looking to holiday in the area again. |
