The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region

Ideally situated within the Poitou-Charente's micro-climate, yet close to the chateaux and stunning scenery of the Loire Valley. The Loire Valley, known as the Garden of France, is famous for its scores of romantic Chateaux which sit between the river and the undulating vineyards. The Anjou wine region combines the culture of centuries, with a great number of fascinating wine 'domaine's to be explored.....and the region is steeped in history, with so much to see and do.
The Bouille-Loretz area
In Bouille-Loretz there is a bakery, general store and deli/butcher. Banks, restaurants and supermarkets are all available in Thouars or Montreuil-Bellay, which are 10 mins by car. In the local area, there are a number of wineries offering tasting and cellar-door sales, two favourites are just a 5 minute walk from the cottage. With so much unspoilt countryside, open fields, gentle hills and woodland our region is ideal for walkers or cyclists and the wildlife is abundant. If history and architecture are your interests, you will be spoilt for choice with so many stunning chateaux and old towns to explore.
We are less than 20 minutes to the historic towns of Saumur, Thouars, Doue La Fontaine and Montreuil-Bellay all of which have much to see and do. Just a little further afield are the towns of Chinon and Fontevraud with there strong connections to English history.
We are only about an hour away from two of the most popular family attractions in Europe, the Puy de Fou historical adventure theme park and the Futuroscope, science fiction theme park.

Guestbook for Farmer's Cottage
We have all had a fabulous time, it has gone so quickly. The gite is perfect, lacking in nothing, with lovely special touches that make the difference, Phil and Janet, you have done a wonderful job and are lovely welcoming hosts. We hope to be back so George can enjoy France as he gets older - and will certainly recommend to friends and family. See you again. Connolly family (UK)
Fabulous cottage, fabulous location and fabulous hosts. Had a wonderful time here - thanks so much Janet and Phil. Visited tons of places in the area and still had time to relax by the pool and enjoy the brilliantly set up cottage. Maddy in particular will miss your gorgeous dogs! Thanks for everything - we have thoroughly enjoyed it. Morgan family (UK)
We have had a lovely relaxing week, sunbathing, swimming and reading with a little sight-seeing - just as we planned it. The gite is very comfortable and peaceful and Janet and Phil were extremely welcoming and attentive hosts. We will go home with our batteries recharged. Philpott family (UK)
I thought from the photos that this was going to be a special place and being here has reinforced that in spades. What a wonderful welcome - wine, cheese, flowers - gorgeous and very welcome after a long few days getting here (via Disney). It has been great getting to know you and the dogs this week. Having Will, Harley and Tiki to keep the children from missing our dog so much has been great. It has been wonderful to revisit places from my childhood holidays and then come back to the pool, although the children would have been happy just here for the week.
Thank you also for showing us the local countryside and the beautiful house and outbuildings. It is a completely magnificent place. we will definitely recommend you. Thank you Phil and Janet fo a really lovely week. Goodenough family (UK)
