What a find! This spacious, detached family home is in a fabulous location less than 2 miles from Oxford City Centre.

Set in 4 acres of private gardens and woodland with views to the open countryside, this house is really quite something. There is a huge (150m2) lounge which is great for entertaining; it has a large wood burning stove and a pool table. Off the kitchen is the snug which is a family room with a second TV and another wood burning stove; in here you can accommodate 14 for dinner. The house is very well equipped and has lovely crockery and glasses for a nice table. There is also a more formal dining area. The 7 bedrooms are located over 2 floors each being of a different style; all have storage, most have chests of drawers, a couple have wardrobes others have free standing coat stands. One has a private balcony, one is for the kids and 3 have en-suites. In total there are 5 bathrooms plus a shower room downstairs. The housekeeper lives next door and is available for housekeeping duties and catering (please ask for details and costs).

Tastefully furnished with some very interesting pieces with the owner's individual style bringing in warmth and personality.

Outside is a large terrace with rustic furniture and a bbq. Steps go down into the gardens and mature wood where you'll often get visits from the local wildlife - deer, badgers, red kites. There is a sauna in the garden available to guests.

The house is tucked away from the road and has plenty of parking. Just 2 miles into the city centre (plenty of buses) and 1 mile from the village of Cumnor where you'll find 2 country pubs, a post office and newsagent.

The location is excellent for Oxford but with the public transport links you can pretty much get to most places without using the car. There is a train station and bus station in the city; the road network is excellent too with the M40, A40 and A34 all a short drive.

Available for short breaks all year.

About this location

The Oxfordshire region

From Windsor to the Welsh Borders our area offers a taste of what was and what is...fabulous properties of historic and architectural interest that sit alongside pretty tea rooms, gastro pubs, shops, restaurants etc etc!

In a simply stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are the Cotswolds with the unique honey-coloured stone, ancient woodlands and miles of rolling hills and over 3,000 miles of public footpaths. The rivers Windrush and Coln trickle their way through some of the prettiest Cotswold towns and villages you will ever come across, Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury. Royal Berkshire and the Thames Valley are on the doorstep of the Capital. Stay in Windsor (with a royal neighbour!), be close to Henley-on-Thames famous for Henley Regatta or walk The Thames Path as the river meanders through rural villages, historic towns and peaceful water meadows before it reaches the Thames Barrier in the heart of London. From your 'own' front door you can explore the contrasts of Worcestershire, Herefordshire & Shropshire. Visit the theatres at Stratford-upon-Avon, walk the Ridgeway Path from the Thames in the west through to the atmospheric Chiltern Hills.

Our towns and villages optimise the English rural on the green, a glass of locally brewed beer, peace and quiet - lovely!

The world-renowned university city of Oxford dates back to the Saxon times, when it was settled due to the location of a ford used as an oxen crossing. It later became a fortress town with the idea of helping to protect the kingdom from foreign invasion. Mention of the university itself starts to appear in 12th century records and, over time, it has helped define the city as a place of learning and theological discussion. Within the last one hundred years, Oxford has also become known for its printing and publishing and automotive industries. It now has a second university, Oxford Brookes University. Oxford has become quite a cosmopolitan city due its student population and people settling there from overseas. There are many things to do in Oxford like visiting the numerous museums and exhibitions (The Ashmolean Museum, University Museum of Natural History and The Bodleian Library to name a few), going for a punt down the river, browsing the plentiful shops or just wandering around in order to take in the fascinating historical buildings. There is good local public transport in Oxford, as well as many bicycle paths for those that like to travel under their own steam! If you prefer to leave your car on the perimeter of Oxford and take a bus into the centre, there are 5 Park and Ride locations to choose from. For those that enjoy relaxing among plants and greenery, visit Harcourt Arboretum, Rousham House or Waterperry Garden. Oxford is close to the M40 and M4 motorways, providing easy access to London, Bath and Bristol and other parts of the country. The picturesque Cotswolds (among many family attractions is The Cotswold Wildlife Park near Burford) are within easy reach of Oxford as is Shakespeare's Country and Stratford-upon-Avon, the home of The Royal Shakespeare Theatre. If travelling to other destinations using public transport, there is a mainline train station and a bus/coach terminal which both offer services to different parts of the UK, including frequent bus services to central London and to both Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.
