The Sardinia region

Bosa is a beautiful medieval town set amongst hills on the banks of the river Temo. It is one mile to the closest beach, and within easy reach of wonderful bays and coves. The sea in Sardinia is spotless and clear offering great swimming and snorkelling. The people in Bosa are friendly and helpful, making it an ideal place to relax en famille, with friends or even by oneself.

The interior of Sardinia is mountainous, offering great walking just 1 1/2 hours drive away.
From Bosa it is also very quick to get to the east of the island and explore places such as Cala Gonone, where there are day long boat trips exploring the incredible coastline with its turquoise waters.

Bosa / Bosa Centre area

The house is in the 'centro storico' of Bosa, on one of the narrow cobbled streets in the medieval quarter. Step onto the terrace and the view gives you an immediate taste of what a holiday in the unspoilt Sardinian town of Bosa is all about: beauty, variety, and above all a pervading sense of peace.

You will see an ancient town unfolding below you, the terracotta coloured roofs spreading round the central dome of the XIIth century Cattedrale dell'Immacolata. Look to the east and your eye will follow the curves of the River Temo, upon whose banks the town, a former capital of Sardinia, is built. Roman bridges span the Temo, where fishermen moor and the old tanneries stand. Facing you across the valley are hills - green in winter, golden in summer - follow their descent towards the west and you will see the blue of the Med.

The turreted Castello Malaspina which crowns the hill above the town is witness to the long history of Sardinia, involving invasions by the Phoenicians, Carthaginians and later the Aragonese and Catalans. You can visit the castello and see beautiful XV century frescos, and a stunning view of the town. There are wonderful beaches up and down the coast which I would recommend you go to. The swimming is blissful, the water is very clear and clean.

There is plenty of snorkelling to be done, as well as windsurfing on the beach at Bosa Marina. Bosa Marina, with it's long sandy beach, is one mile away, it is the local sea-side resort to the town. Anybody wanting some night life need only go down to Bosa Marina where it is full of bars and nightclubs, they are buzzing in summer till the wee hours of the morning.

There are bars in the town as well and wonderful ice-cream shops. You can wander down in the evening light to the Corso Vittorio Emmanuele, lined with gracious Roman houses, to Café Chelo for an aperitif and to watch the world go by. Market day is Tuesday. Other activities: walking, riding, cycling, diving, rowing, bird watching.

How to get there

Flights to Alghero from Stansted, Liverpool and East Midlands, and Dublin. Alghero is 50km away from Bosa. You travel south along the coast road, with spectacular views all the way.

Car hire is highly recommended, as there is lots of exploring to be done.

I can arrange for a Taxi to pick you up from the airport in Alghero and return, not everyone who'se been has rented a car, it is possible to rent bikes in Bosa, and also to rent a car from the local Europcar for a few days.

Other flights going to Cagliari (2hours) or Olbia (2 hours) are an alternative.

By boat from France, Spain and Italy arriving at Porto Torres, which is about 1 1/2 hours drive.

There are many car hire companies to choose from, including all the big firms. I have used and been happy with the service of 'europaautos'

Further details indoors:
The house is wonderfully simple and uncluttered. The rooms are spacious full of light and simply furnished in pale colours.

The kitchen, at the top of the house has wide windows which open onto the terrace. It is a place to relax as well as prepare great meals with wonderful local products. It is also a place to just sit and take in the wonderful views over this beautiful town and its surroundings.

The light, views and general simplicity have an incredibly relaxing effect, holidays here really do make one stop, slow down, and enjoy life.

Further details outdoors:
Long sandy beach 1 mile away. It takes no time to drive there, about 1/2 hour to walk. There is also a small bus type thing that takes people over from the centre, and a boat ride I am told. Other beautiful beaches up and down the coast, either sandy or rocky. The water is extremely clean and clear and great for snorkeling. There is a local scuba diving school and boats to hire for the day can also be arranged. Beach umbrella provided.

House is in the old town, within walking distance of shops, bars, restaurants and market. Car parking nearby and free.
Crossing over to the East coast takes around two hours. Inland there are beautiful mountains and small towns, this is about 1 1/2 hours drive. It takes around 2 hours to get to Cagliari.

Guestbook

Bosa was one of the more enjoyable events of our holiday portfolio and one that we would all like to repeat. We have always been ones for bucking the pre-organised trends and have, as a family, had some pretty remarkable holidays all over the world. What made it for us this time? A lot of things combine to make a good holiday. But above all, your accommodation and it's location set the theme for the whole period. It has a wonderful ambiance, is comfortable and entirely adequate. One thing you can rest assured of - we'll be back! D. Wood, Oxford

Thank you so much, the holiday was fantastic and the experience was wonderful...sheer bliss! R. Green Hertford

We had such a fantastic time. The house is so perfect - the view from the balcony is stunning. We hope to visit again in the near future. C. Lewin, Cheshire.
