Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 10
If you are looking for an authentic Sardinian experience, Su Domu Grogu is for you. Although only 10 minutes drive from sandy beaches and 15 minutes from the bustle of Bosa, Sagama is a small hill village where people live at a different pace and old traditions live on.
We think Su Domu Grogu is fabulous - but don't take our word for it. Read the Trip Advisor reviews for a flavour of what your holiday in Sardinia could be.
The house is spacious with four large bedrooms on the first floor, two bathrooms (one being completely renovated for 2013 season) and a living room downstairs that has a double divan bed if required. Being stone-built the large white rooms seem to remain cool inside, even on the hottest summer days.
A large, well equipped kitchen with log fire forms the heart of the house but there is also a dining room and peaceful sitting room. The property is detached and has a large sun terrace on the roof with stunning views over the countryside and distant mountains. The sun terrace has a pergola to provide shade on those summer afternoons. You can't really tell from the pictures but the terrace is completely private and not overlooked. The house has access front and back. It's perfect for a large family or two families sharing, although couples have had lovely breaks there too.
For easy payment, we can take credit card bookings by phone.

The Sardinia region
Sardinia is the second largest island in the Med but maintains its rural authenticity. There are long, hot summers for the sun-worshipper and winters can be cold and sometimes wet. Spring is particularly beautiful as the countryside bursts into colour and wild fennel, asparagus and spinach abound. The climate in autumn is equally pleasant with the sea still warm enough to swim in. This is the time to pick the famous wild mushrooms.
The island is mountainous enough to have a ski resort in the east. It is a place with a very special and distinct culture and cuisine. It is not surprising that Sardinia has become the destination for the rich and famous. However, the West coast remains undeveloped and retains its unique local culture. Sagama is the perfect place to experience the life of the island as it is untouched by tourism or other cultures.
Su Domu Grogu blends in to a recently and beautifully renovated piazza alongside a famous medieval church (which is well worth a visit). The church is popular for weddings, especially in the summer. The traditional Sardinian wedding is quite a spectacle!
We are the only non - Italian house in the village. Everyone who goes there enthuses about how warm and friendly the local people are!
There are few other facilities in the village - one small bar and a post office. Vans selling vegetables and sometimes fish come through a few times a week. The nearest supermarket and petrol station is in Suni - 5 minutes away. There is a good Sardinian restaurant in Magomadas - also 5 minutes away. Bosa has big supermarkets and a good variety of shops.
Sagama is particularly known for its wild mushrooms which abound in autumn in the country park of traditional Sardinian agriculture behind the village. In front of the house is a quiet track that winds through small private vineyards and olive groves.
Sardinia is full of festivals, food and wine. From carnival in the Spring to the cultural festivals of the summer, there is always something new to experience.
We will be holding taste of Sardinia courses - to be advertised separately - to give people the opportunity to experience at first hand the traditional ways to make great food and wine.
The house is also ideal for groups of cyclists - there is substantial secure storage in the garage underneath. We can provide supported cycling holidays on well surfaced very quiet roads in superb scenery - so long as you like climbing!
Sardinia is a paradise for outdoor pursuits, rock climbing, paragliding, canoeing, horse riding - Su Domu Grogu is ideally placed to enjoy all these things! And with loads of space can accommodate groups - and at £400 per week for up to 8 people in high season!

"Ah Italy - like it used to be - with better plumbing and electricity."
We were a party of 7 for 2 weeks in Sep. grandparents, parents, and 3 children under 6. The house was large enough and relaxed enough (and safe enough) to cope with all out needs. Neighbours supplied us with tomatoes and figs (if you haven't tried figs in Italy in September then....). We agree with the other reviews. The terrace on top provided so many magical moments: morning coffee greeting the day; after showers at end of day. As we describe it to friends: "A large house in a friendly little village 15 minutes from one of the loveliest towns in Sardinia (Bosa), with a choice of beaches to suit all needs and tastes. And a simpler version of Italy - probably the most instantly enjoyable country in Europe. It took us back 40 years to our first Italian beach holidays (but with better electricity, plumbing, appliances, and food)."
We have found that the neighbours have been generous to a number of our house guests. One of the many special things about Su Domu Grogu is its location in such a unique, friendly and, above all, Italian village.
