About this location

The Lake District

Heart-stopping scenery – including England's highest mountain and deepest water - isn't just what the wonderful Lake District is about. England's largest national park is also home to thriving communities, bustling villages and towns and some of the best walking, climbing and cycling terrain in the world.

At the gateway to the Southern Lakes, South Lakeland Leisure Village is perfectly placed for exploring all this beautiful area has to offer, with the auld grey town of Kendal just a 20 minute drive away, world-famous Windermere within half an hour's reach, and picturesque Ullswater and Keswick to the north, only an hour away.

Hire a boat and take to the water at Coniston, explore the acclaimed 30 acre Thomas Mawson designed Arts and Crafts garden at the Brockhole Visitor Centre overlooking Windermere or learn a little about the local legends and literary greats such as Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth by visiting the homes they lived in and the places that inspired them.

Visit Cumbria Tourism or the Lake District National Park website for details of events and things to see and do.

The Carnforth area combines superb countryside with coastal landscapes. Whether you want a gentle walk or cycle along a canal tow path or a more challenging route , you will find it close by.

Explore the glorious countryside around the Lancaster Canal or you are also only a short drive from Windermere and the Lakes.

A short drive from the leisure village lies Morecambe Bay, a stretch of coastline spanning Cumbria and Lancashire and encompassing everything from the historic city of Lancaster to the tiny villages of Lindale.

This haven for wildlife spans 195 square metres from Walney Island to Fleetwood and 120 square miles are exposed as golden sands during low tides. These sands, and the areas of salt marsh that border them, are a wintering and passage area for waders and wildfowl and a rich breeding ground - so much so that the bay is considered the most important estuary in Britain for its total wader population, and the third most important in Europe.

A short drive to the east of South Lakeland Leisure Village lies an area of great scenic beauty - the Yorkshire Dales. A collection of rolling green hills, river valleys, dramatic waterfalls and limestone scars, pavements and caves, much of this awe-inspiring landscape is classified as a National Park while all of it has something to offer - whether you want peace and solitude, adventure or merely the chance to relax and explore the charming villages and market towns.

The historic market town of Lancaster is only a short drive away, and is full of lively shops, bars and restaurants

"A very enjoyable stay, good value for money."

This is a lovely Lodge in peaceful surroundings.
The staff on the park were very friendly and helpful and the lodge was clean and tidy with everything in it that you would need.
This is an ideal place for people who just want to get away and relax.
My only negative was that when I went to book in for treatments to be pampered they were fully booked so a word of advice if you want to be pampered phone and book the treatments before you go.
Overall it was a lovely short break of 4 days and would recommend to anyone who wants a more laid back restful holiday.
