The Lake District

With its breathtaking mountain scenery, beautiful lakes and picturesque villages, the Lake District is a paradise, not only for outdoor enthusiasts but for anyone who loves peace and beauty.

The changing seasons bring with them different highlights – Spring is a time of new life with baby lambs, Wordsworth's daffodils, and walks through bluebell woods. Summer brings it's own magic, either lazing by a lake or enjoying the view from the high mountain peaks. Beautiful Autumn colours hopefully bring along an Indian Summer and wild winter on the frosty fells, makes the most of an open fire and a seasonal glass of mulled wine.

The beautiful lakes with dramatic fells rising from there shores are just part of a great experience of excellent local food and fantastic activities. A holiday here can live long in the memory and get you coming back for more.

Borrowdale

Grange Fell Cottage is perfectly situated for setting out on foot to enjoy the delights that the Lake District has to offer - the beautiful Derwentwater, lush valleys, majestic peaks, mature woodlands and the gorgeous river Derwent winding a route from its source high up at Styhead Tarn.

Borrowdale is one of the most stunning valleys in the Lake District - offering varied walking, classic rock climbing routes and scrambling opportunities. It's a short walk from Grange Fell Cottage to Derwentwater, where you can explore its shores on foot or take the launch along the lake into Keswick, where there are further pubs and restaurants as well Booths supermarket. Keswick is a hub of outdoor activity and there is something to do for everyone in the local area.

The visitor centre at Whinlatter is close by and has café, bike hire and high ropes course (Go Ape), as well as a live video camera in the Osprey nest (May-August). There is a recently opened mountain bike trail (said to be one of the best and longest forest trails in England).
