Situated just over the ancient twin-spanned bridge in the centre of Grange in Borrowdale. The village of Grange dates back to the establishment of Home Farm in 1209 by the monks of Furness Abbey. How cottage forms the middle cottage of a row of 3 formerly occupied by a barn. The thickness of the stone walls are testament to its history. Grange lies just south of Derwent Water and is reached along Borrowdale Road from out of Keswick and passing alongside the Lake and south of the famous Lodore Falls. This is mountain country of stunning scenery; to the south there is Great Gable, Green Gable, Glaramara and Scafell. The front of the cottage looks out over Grange Fell whilst the rear has stunning views to Maiden Moor and beyond to Cat Bells. After the day's exertions, there is a restaurant at the Borrrowdale Gates or at the Scafell Hotel, Rosthwaite plus other hotels in the neighbouring villages.
The house is comfortably furnished. The Living room has a multi-fuel burner for those cosy winter evenings. A starter bag of kindling and coal are provided during the winter. The kitchen is well stocked with all 'mod cons' including a dishwasher, electric cooker, microwave and washing machine/tumble dryer. A selection of games and books are provided for your stay. There is a plasma screen TV plus a Blu-ray player and free Wi-Fi. All crockery & cutlery together with bed linen are provided but please bring towels. A torch is useful for the winter months. The cottage has a lockable shed that may be used to store up to 4 bikes or climbing gear or even a kayak or canoe!

The Lake District
Situated in the jaws of Borrowdale, south of Keswick, at the southern tip of Derwent Water, Grange in Borrowdale is a delightful village situated in magnificent walking and climbing country. The River Derwent meanders through the village and so is ideal for anglers who would like to catch a trout for supper. A beautiful walk to start your holiday is around Derwent Water which is about 12 miles all round or return by launch from various jetties around the Lake, before moving to more challenging walks such as Cat Bells (at the back of How Cottage). Then graduate to Great Gable and Scafell and return for a well earned cream tea at one of the two lovely cafes in Grange. A great family day out is to visit Honister Slate mines, the only remaining working slate quarry. Try the via ferrata which follows the old miner's track up the mountain.
Grange is located in the central fells of the Lake District. The two main towns are Keswick to the north and Ambleside to the south, both offering a good shopping experience for stocking up on provisions. Keswick is the nearer town, whilst Grasmere is only a 20 minutes' drive away.
