The Sofia/Rila Mountains region

Rila is the highest mountain in Bulgaria and on the whole Balkan Peninsula. It is a part of the Rila-Rhodope Massif and occupies its north-east end. Rila seems to be a piece of the Alps thrown into the heart of the Balkans with its 130 Alpine peaks above 2000m, glacial valleys and lakes.

Take a safari in the Seven Lakes. These are situated in the Rila Mountain and not many places can offer such astonishing beauty and serenity.

Try the Rila Monastery - This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bulgaria, situated approx. 70km from Borovets. Founded in the 10th century and regarded as one of the most important sites in Bulgarian Heritage.

Borovets / Samokov area

The Borovets ski resort area offers fantastic ski conditions throughtout the ski season. Nestling amidst pine forests in the beautiful Rila Mountains, Borovets is Bulgarias oldest established and largest resort with snow conditions amongst the best in Eastern Europe. The snow range is from 1300 - 2550metres. Borovets has 15 lifts (1 gondola, 4 Chair, 10 Draglifts).

The slopes - Borovets offers 25 slopes (Beginners - 8no. - gentle nursery slopes besides the Rila Complex, - Intermediates - 13no. - Good with a variety of runs and Advanced - 4no. for the expert - including the testing World Cup Run, one of the more challenging pistes in the Yastrebets area or excellent skiing through the trees and off piste.

For Snow boarders, Borovets is on of the best rideable areas in Bulgaria, with plenty of varied terrain, open pistes, fun lines through the trees and a half pipe at Rotata.

For those who prefer mountain holidays with a difference there are lovely mountain walks for the more adventurous in the summer season. Other available activities in the Summer season include - Outdoor mineral spring filled pool in Belchin Bani, 20km from Borovets, Horse Riding, Fishing at Iskar Dam, Golf at Dolna Banya - a small town 50km from Borovets, Hiking, Mountain Biking and Paragliding or watersports, swimming, sunbathing at Lake Iskar just a few minutes drive from Borovets.

Borovets is a resort which can offer entertainment, partying and fun all night long... Apres Ski - There is a wide choice of cafe's, bars and shops. Borovets is well known for its bars, ranging from a traditional inn with a log fire, to one of the numerous busy bars with loud music and dancing. - Try Black Tiger, Buzz Bar, Flora or either of the night clubs at Samokov and Rila Hotels.

You can visit the neighbouring villages such as Beli Iskar, MalaTsarkva and Govedartsi. These villages have kept their Bulgarian traditions where you can appreciate the traditional Bulgarian spirit.
