Borovets / Beli Iskar area
Beli Iskar is a quiet traditional Bulgarian village with a number of restaurants, bars and a couple of well-stocked shops. The village hosts the Rilski Zelnik Festival and has its own rock concert in the Summer. Beli Iskar is the gateway to the Rila national park. Many waymarked paths start f rom the village outskirts.
The mountainous terrain makes it a great destination not only for skiing, but also for climbing. hiking and mountain biking. Lake Iskar, Bulgarias largest lake is only 20km away for sailing, jet skiing ,water skiing and fishing, or simply lying on the beach.
Steeped in local history, there is plenty to see and do in the local area. The Tsarska Bistritas Palace owned by the Bulgarian Royal family, is only a few minutes drive away and the spectacular Rila Monastery is 90 minutes drive. The area is also dotted with many spring water spas for those seeking a more relaxing time.
Nearby Samokov is an old industrial town. Here there is plenty of urban history with many splendid buildings and churches. Samokov is also home to several outdoor swimming pools and a new sports centre. The weekly market is well stocked with locally grown produce. During the winter months they also have an ice rink.
