Iskar hotel and chalets are owned by an English family. The smart and modern hotel has 8 double and twin rooms which have been designed by London designers, with furniture made by local craftsmen. There are stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forest. The small group of 5 individual chalets within the grounds provides intimate accommodation, with glorious views of the surrounding snowy countryside and Rila mountains.
For the ski season the chalet style of catered meals is unique to the Borovets resort, as the meals are cooked to high English standards. Breakfast and 3 course evening meal are served daily in the restaurant to all the guests. We provide an ideal base for your skiing in Borovets, but intimacy away from the crowds. 300 meters away is the Goverdartsi ski slope which has a nursery slope, and a blue/red run.

SKI RESORT OF BOROVETS

All runs are marked according to their level of difficulty and they are suitable for beginners, intermediate or advanced skiers.
BOROVETS TOWN
Borovets has been the host of the World cup downhill ski championships. The town is based 1147 m above sea level and the slopes rise above at 2500 meters, accessed via a gondola.
The genuine charm of Borovets town is at it’s best in winter. There are over 40 km of ski runs available to the downhill skier, many of which are tree lined. There are also dozens of ski tracks for cross country skiers. Amongst the multitude of ski lifts and draglifts the most significant one is the gondola. The journey takes 20 minutes and whisks you to the playground of intermediate runs.
There are some very large and imposing hotels in Borovets centre, these serve the large number of package holiday-makers who come from around Europe. A multitude of small and friendly bars and restaurants line the streets of this small tourist town. They serve food of an international and Bulgarian nature and drinks throughout the day. Menus are translated into English. The prices vary depending on the location of the establishment and their height and proximity to the slopes.
Along the narrow streets of the tourist town are small souvenir and clothing stores, selling ski and leisure wear, sunglasses and usual local souvenirs. Local women are seen knitting traditional socks, jumpers and making lace table cloths and they sell their work to passers by.
Borovets / Govedartsi area
SKIING A daily shuttle will take you after breakfast from your chalet to the slopes at Borovets. Your representative will take you to where the lessons start or to the ski lifts, whichever you need. Brand new ski and boot hire available at the chalets. Price of ski passes, ski and boot hire and lessons £155 for adults, £115 for children, fitting at your accommodation so that you don't have to join the queues in the resort.
Beginners can enjoy a high standard of English speaking instruction and gentle nursery slopes, in the centre of the town. Lessons are in English, lasting 4 hours per day for 6 days a week. Beginners start the week on the nursery slopes but by the end of the week everyone is heading for the gondola lift and the more challenging runs at the top of Yastrebets.
Intermediate skiers can enjoy most of the 18 ski runs on the mountains of Borovets. The well-planned lift system includes the 5 km, 6-person Yastrebets gondola lift, which opens up a wealth of enjoyable runs, ranging from wide sunny boulevards in the Moussala basin, to scenic looping trails through the trees. As the gondola takes you to the top of the peak you can try the longest downhill run in Bulgaria,as well as some great skiing on the slopes of the wind-free basin underneath Moussala peak.
Advanced skiers and experts can enjoy the black runs of Markujik peak. Also the testing World Cup run, one of the more challenging pistes on the Yastrebets area or the excellent skiing through the trees and off-piste.
Cross-country tracks of total length of 18 km. There is a 10 km track next to the gondola.
Floodlit Night skiing is available, depending on snow conditions, in the town centre slopes from 5 pm to 10 pm. For night skiing there is a special lift pass that has to be bought separately at the kiosks on the pistes.
Skiing is available from the beginning of December till mid April.
GOVERDARTSI The resort village of Goverdartsi is the gateway to the highest mountain in Bulgaria the Rila. The Rila rises up to a height of 2925m, and is the 6th highest peak in Europe. The name comes from the form of being abundant in water, water mountain.
The village is a 12 km car journey to the Borovets resort. It is an excellent base of mountain hiking, which can be enjoyed particularly in the spring, summer and autumn. Thousands of kilometres of trails are marked out in the mountains. The high mountain lakes are scattered around the Rila mountain range. There is a wealth of natural beauty to admire, in the National park including wild flowers, animals and birds.

Fly to Sofia - 70kms away from the resort of Borovets. Firstly, we would all like to thank you for your hospitality during our stay with you at the beginning of April. We all had an absolutely fantastic time, everything was brilliant! I would like to say a special thank you to your for your vegetarian cooking, well done, it was fantastic & much appreciated!
We were really really sorry to leave - it was a wonderful, relaxing, holiday and we felt really at home and settled in straight away, watching the DVDs and playing games by the fire in the evening, it was gorgeous.
As for Borovets, I'm glad we didn't stay in the resort itself, it seems a little seedy with all the girlie bars etc, but it was fine for the ski-ing and we had some good lunches there during the day time. I suppose it depends on the individual, but going on holiday in a group like we did meant that we were happier to stay in the living room at Iskar hanging out with each other, rather than going out round the bars of Borovets at night.
Joan was a fantastic host she was so friendly and the whole group felt like she was interested in our welfare. The food Joan cooked was great; the soups were definitely a winner, the chocolate mousse and the meat balls!
The accommodation was great also it was warm and cosy, the games and DVDs are a great addition for the lounge area and we made full use of them in the evenings.
