The Sofia/Rila Mountains region

Borovets is the oldest and highest Bulgarian winter resort. It is situated in the stunning Rila Mountains with resort level being 1,390 metres above the sea level and the highest point (Mount Mussala) at 2,900m with many of the pistes rising to a breathtakng 2,600m ensuring deep snow cover from December to April on the uppermost slopes.
In summer the temperature is a comfortable 22C – 27C with a slight mountain breeze.
In Winter the slopes of Borovets have snow cover from mid December till April
The Borovets / Royal Plaza area
The resort of Borovets currently offers 45 kilometres of piste varying in difficulty and length to keep skiers and boarders of all levels more than happy. There are quirky on mountain cafes (Yastrebets Xtreme cafe perched jauntily on the side of the mountain at the top is a particular favourite), and flood lit night skiing on the lower resort level slopes allows those who are enthusiastic enough to maximse their time on the snow. Snow making facilties and nightly piste bashing ensure good conditions. It is a perfect place to enjoy a fabulous and reasonable winter holiday.
There are excellent facilities off piste as well as on the snow with many quirky restaurants and bars in the main resort as well as spas and pools to enjoy some relaxation and recovery from the more strenuos mountain activities.
The resort is also a great place in summer as a base for sightseeing, hiking, pony trekking in the stunning mountains, or water activities at the near by Lake Iskar. Borovets is also just 70km away from Bulgaria’s bustling capital, Sofia that has many unusual shops and bars.

I have been to borovets on a few ski holidays and this is definatley the best I've stayed. its perfect position on the strip so its only a 2 minute walk to either the gondola or the ice angels so both slope ranges are easy to get to. Its also right opposite all the best restaurants and bars, but you are high enough up so not to be distrubed on a night. also ontop of a supermarket which is great for getting food and drink for the apartment!! PLUS with the ski hire in the basement was great touch as the lads in there were sound and do a great job on waxing snowboards. plus not too expensive compared to similiar places in the resort. the accomadation it self is v.good well furnished and is a cosy place to chill out after a day on the slopes! I went with a group of friends girls and lads and the flat was perfect for us, so all in all everything you need from accomadation.I will be going back to borovets next year and I will definatley be trying to book in here again!! I stayed in this apartment last winter and it was absolutely perfect for our visit to Borovets. The place was very good value, clean & comfortable - perfect for me & my friends. The best thing about this accommodation is the location. Being halfway between both sections of the resort, you can easily pick which side of the mountain to go up depending on weather conditions. It is also well placed to stumble back to after a night out in Borovets' many bars & clubs. The Royal Plaza is well maintained and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. Overall I would have no hesitation in recommending this as a fantastic place to stay in an excellent, friendly and reasonably priced resort. I really enjoyed my stay here. So if you are thinking of staying here and want to know why you should stay here then I would say why not? |

To get to the Royal Plaza from Sofia airport takes around 40 minutes. I have been going back to Borovets now for 5 years and to the same Royal Plaza apartment. Set in a fantastic central location you are close to all you will need for your stay. Upon my 2nd time in Borovets I felt like I had 'come home'! There is plenty of choice in places to eat and lots of bars to have fun in. The Royal Plaza is very well run and has a supermarket below as well as a ski hire shop. The Apartment is lovely, very clean, and modern with all the essentials. More than adequate for 4 people it has a lovely balcony over looking the centre of the town and being an end apartment it has views of the sounding area! The apartment owners are more than accommodating and will help with all your requests to the best of their ability and can sort out airport transfers on request. Its only a 2 minutes walk (and thats not a a lie) to the gondola, the mountain is so beautiful and so quite, its a hidden gem! Good for all levels of skiers and snowboarders and best of all its cheap and definitely not last , cheerful....I will be back for more in March 2012! |
