The Sofia/Rila Mountains region
Borovets is the oldest international and most popular mountain resort in Bulgaria. It is located at 1350 above the sea level (with highest pistes at 2600 m), on the Northern slopes of Rila mountain among age-old pine woods, at the foot of Mousala peak (2925 m) the highest one on the Balkan peninsula. Borovets is easily accessible, being at a distance of only 70 km from Sofia (the capital of Bulgaria) and 126 km from Plovdiv.
Established at the end of the 19th century as a hunting place for the Bulgarian kings, BOROVETS gradually developed into a modern ski resort of high class and luxury hotels, haute-cuisine restaurants and the varied leisure-time entertainment opportunities besides an excellent network of ski runs and lifts along the slopes of the Rila Mountain.
The Borovets / Royal Plaza area
There are available ski runs for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers, designed with international markings and multilingual signs. Pistes are bashed and maintained to the high standard. The ski runs of Borovets are located in three different regions. Cross-country and biathlon tracks are located 2 km away from the resort together with the cross-country tuition tracks. Borovets ski centre is serviced by well organised lift system, inclusive Gondola lift. 8 snow cannons for artificial snow are installed to guarantee the snow cover if needed. The Borovets ski school has been known as one of the best in Bulgaria. There are more than 200 ski instructors fluent in foreign languages and some of them are former professional skiers.
Apres Ski
Borovets is full of bars, cafes, night clubs, discos. The night life is excellent at this resort (Buzz bar, Mamacitas, Bonkers disco, etc). This resort is known as the most interesting ski centre regarding party time. Its been catering for foreign tourists for many years now, the staff are known to be friendly and professional. Most of the places work till the early morning, and offer good prices and special 'happy hour' discounts Music played is mostly international dance music. Very often special shows are presented at the clubs. There are available restaurants and taverns with Bulgarian national folk music and 'horo' dancing, which some people find very interesting.

The gondola lift station is 2 mins walk down the road, the chair lifts and ski school are 1min down the road in the other direction.

As well as skiing BOROVETS offers scores of scenic walking routes, by experienced guides. The organised trips lead to picturesque spots in the Rila Mountain like Seven Rila Lakes, peak Malyovitsa, peak Moussala, etc. A photo Safari and a visit to the Bulgarian kings' residence of Bistritsa are also regularly organized. Various trips to different tourist attractions throughout Bulgaria are offered as well.
Try horse riding along the treks and around the mountains
Great for good, inexpensive food and wine!

We would certainly recommend the world famous Rila Monastery or the busy city of Sofia for sightseeing or shopping

The apartment is spacious, the furniture is new and comfortable. While it is located in the center of the resort, the windows overlook the quiet part of the street. The apartment is serviced and cleaned every day. We liked our stay and had nothing to complain about. |

Stayed for a long weekend at the beginning of December. Clean, modern and spacious. Lovely apartment with great underfloor heating right in the middle of the resort. Booking now for our annual ski trip in Feb. |

Hi Sally, sorry for the delay in this mail but I have been so busy since we returned from Bulgaria. I just wanted to thankyou for renting us your lovely apt. We had an amazing time in borovetts and would highly recommend the resort and apartment to others. As you may be aware we had to leave early due to my dad being taken seriously poorly, the balkan pms team were very helpful and changed our rtn transfers without any problem. Picked up by minibus from Sofia airport and taken to the apartment in about an hour and a half. The apartment was excellent, good quality furnishings throughout. Sofa-bed was fine and the double in the bedroom was more like a super-kingsize. We also requested a travel cot which was fine. We were worried about the noise levels as we have a young family so we were happy to find that it was actually very quiet - double glazing helped but mainly due to the fact you are at the back of the building. Lifts are nearby, about 3 min walk and there is a reasonably well stocked mini-supermarket just outside. So in summary, the apt was warm and comfy, plenty of room in a good location and highly recommended.
