Snow Goose Chalet
£117–£625 / week
About the home
Snow Goose Chalet is a truly delightful holiday home combining luxury accommodation with quality catering. The chalet is perfectly designed to accommodate large groups of friends or family, allowing everyone to enjoy their own favourite pastimes while maximising the time you spend together, the most important aspect of your group holiday. We offer fully all-inclusive accommodation throughout the winter so, once you’ve arrived, your responsibilities are over.
The chalet is 7km from the internationally renowned Borovets ski resort, which offers terrain suited to all levels of skier. Summer visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities amongst the stunning alpine scenery, including horse riding right from your front doorstep and downhill biking from the top of the gondola lift.
You have the entire chalet at the disposal of your own group, so you don’t have to fit in with the needs of anyone else. We take care of the logistics of your holiday, so you can sit back and let it all just happen. A dedicated daily transfer to the resort centre is part of your all-inclusive winter package and, if you change your mind about pickup times, we’ll re-arrange them to suit you.
Afternoon tea will be waiting when you return from working up an appetite on the slopes, and a hearty 3 course dinner is on the table 6 out of 7 evenings, including beer, wine and soft drinks. In fact, you are welcome to help yourself to drinks at any time of day throughout your stay, which is a unique offering within the Borovets area.
All you have to worry about is which film to choose from our comprehensive selection of DVDs or whether to enjoy a sundowner on our huge sun terrace, in front of a roaring fire or perhaps in the privacy of your own balcony. We have an excellent relationship with one of the top ski schools in Borovets and can arrange your ski lessons, equipment hire and lift passes at a considerable discount to on-the-day prices.
The living and dining rooms are connected via three shallow, curving steps, making the area a spacious split-level room while maintaining two separate areas in which to spend your time. A lovely log-burning fireplace throws heat into both rooms, augmenting the eco-friendly solid fuel central heating system. The living room has a large seating area for you to enjoy the selection of DVDs, and a further annexe equipped with numerous games.
Accessed via a curved staircase from the ground floor, beautifully decorated bedrooms are spread over two floors, with four en-suite twin/double rooms on the second floor, and a sprawling open-plan 5/6 bed dormitory room (great for kids) plus a double room on the top floor, each room with glorious views and its own balcony. The large bathroom on the top floor offers both a sumptuous corner bath and an integral shower.

The Sofia/Rila Mountains region

The chalet is located in the picturesque mountain village of Beli Iskar, 7km (15-20 minutes drive) from Borovets and only an hour’s drive from Sofia international airport. Each day you will be delivered to and from the very foot of the lifts in Borovets, with no need for the dreaded trek in your ski boots.
Perched at the top of the village, the chalet has a panoramic outlook on the rugged mountain scenery and over the roof-tops of the village in the valley below. The village lies along the banks of the River Iskar and boasts spectacular views of the surrounding mountain peaks; you can see the top gondola station clearly from the front terrace.
Beli Iskar has a couple of well-equipped shops for emergency supplies, and there are a few cosy local style restaurants for the one night a week that your hosts get a well-earned break. But if you would rather, a taxi/minibus can be arranged to take you to your chosen dinner venue.
Borovets is a small, bustling resort with a good snow record and great skiing, with 35km downhill runs on 23 pistes and 18km cross-country tracks. The altitude and cold, dry air provide the perfect conditions for fabulously light, powdery snow.
Nestling between the pine trees that give the resort its name, the ski runs are well suited to beginner and intermediate skiers, and there are ample opportunities for more experienced skiers to test their skills on and off-piste. The ski schools are well-reputed and offer tuition at every level. Instructors speak excellent English and as with every service in Bulgaria, their expertise comes at a very attractive price.
The Borovets / Beli Iskar area
Bulgaria has a rich and varied history. The historic town of Plovdiv, now a revival town displaying many beautifully renovated houses and offering a number of museums and spectacular architectural sights, is easily accessible for a day out. The capital city of Sofia is an hour's drive from the chalet and definitely worth a visit for a wander around the country's national buildings or to indulge in a spot of retail therapy.
Bulgaria's richest treasures are all around you in the Rila mountain region; a huge variety of flora and fauna can be discovered right from your doorstep. Beli Iskar is right on the edge of the Rila national park, and you won't have to walk far before finding yourself on one of thousands of marked hiking trails. The Seven Rila Lakes, locally famous and a spectacular area to explore with a ruck-sack full of snacks, is less than an hour's drive from the chalet.
The Rila Monastery, a World Heritage site, is another beautiful place to visit. It is a tranquil and spiritual retreat to recharge your batteries and enjoy the peace of the mountains.
For those of you who like an active holiday, there is lots going on. Horse-riding can be arranged right from the front door, and Borovets offers a host of activities; mountain-biking in the summer, ski-dooing in the winter. Hiking expeditions can be arranged with the benefit of a local guide and if you enjoy a spot of fishing, you'll find yourself in good company with the local menfolk; a guide can also be arranged to take you to the best spots to catch your dinner.
20 minutes down the road is the huge Lake Iskar, where all sorts of water sports can be enjoyed, including wake-boarding and water-skiing.
