About the home

The Flora residence apartments is a four star complex providing luxurious accommodation where you can enjoy a winter or summer holiday with the whole family in the splendour of Bulgaria's most famous ski resort. This new 2rd floor apartment in Borovets is situated just 50 meters from the main gondola station and nursery slopes and offers some of the best skiing in Bulgaria.

It can comfortably accommodate 4 people and has fantastic facilities with secure parking, restaurants and bars just a few minutes walk away. There is an indoor Swimming Pool, Jacuzzi steam and sauna rooms along with a Fitness Centre which are all available within the complex for a small supplement. There is also a table tennis room, casino, Irish bar and a restaurant all on site.

The studio is fitted with modern furniture and overlooks pine forests.

The kitchen is off the living area and has all the essentials.

The bathroom is off the kitchen area, completely tiled and provides a shower over the bath.

There is a double sofa bed and 2 single beds which are pushed together to make a double bed.

There is a dining table and 2 chairs and an armchair for added comfort.

There is plenty of storage space as the studio has 2 wardrobes and plenty of cabinets to house all clothing.

There is a mini supermarket and shop just outside next to reception along with the property management company who are always available for your needs during your stay.

Conditions

The Property management company require a deposit of £100/Euro and is fully refundable on departure if there are no breakages or damage.

It is advisable to take a scourer and tea towel for washing up and a travel adaptor for electrical items.

Slippers or soft shoes would also be a good idea for your own comfort and floor protection as the floors are tiled and laminated.

The Sofia/Rila Mountains region

Borovets is the oldest international and most popular mountain resort in Bulgaria.

Located at 1350m with the highest pistes at 2600m on the Northern slopes of Rila mountain, it is set among age-old pine woods, at the foot of Mousala peak (2925m) the highest one on the Balkan peninsula.

Borovets is easily accessible, being at a distance of only70km from Sofia (the capital of Bulgaria) and 126km from Plovdiv.

Borovets gradually developed into a modern, friendly and charming ski resort of high class and luxury hotels, haute-cuisine restaurant and varied leisure-time entertainment opportunities besides the excellent network of ski runs and lifts.

The resort is a regular host of various winter sports competitions and has twice hosted World Cup competitions in Alpine skiing. Snow conditions are among the best in Eastern Eurpoe and the season usually lasts from Mid December to April.

The Rila mountains, established at the end of the 19th century as a hunting place for the Bulgarian kings, are registered in the UN list of representative protected areas and is Bulgaria's largest national park - 81,000 hectares, two thirds of which is forested. The park contains over 100 peaks with deep and dramatic river gorges, lakes and waterfalls. The national park authority have marked many trails and built bridges and information boards and there are mountain chalets for hikers to shelter for the night. The area is of special interest of botanists, with a large variety of flora, including some rare species.

The Borovets / Samokov area

There are 45km of pistes varying in difficulty and length for skiing and snowboarding. There are ski runs for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers, designed with international markings and multilingual signs. Several floodlit pistes also allow late night fun on the snow. The Borovets ski school has more than 200 ski instructors fluent in foreign languages and some of them are former professional skiers.

The Flora complex is ideally situated in the centre of Borovets. You can either ski down to the gondola from behind the ski room or you can walk on the flat for about 2 minutes across the Rila ski area. You can ski back to within about 50m of the rear of the apartments. Alternatively you can pick up one of the many horse drawn carriages and arrive in style.

Beginners will get the best possible start with a highly rated local ski school and for intermediates there is a good variety of runs as well as some interesting diversions for experts. The lift system is being improved year on year in preparation for the Super Borovets Project.

Nightlife in the resort centres on the restaurants, bars and discos at bargain prices. A holiday in Borovets is extremely good value for money.

Activities for non-skiers: Skidoo Safari, Bowling alley (Hotal Samokov), Swimming pool, sauna, massage and fitness centre, Horse drawn sleigh rides, cleared winter walks.

The resort offers flights by helicopter above Borovets area, so that you can view and enjoy the beautiful nature of the Rila Mountains. Slightly further afield is a Rila Monastery (about 90 minutes), Bulgaria's largest and most famous monastery, founded in 927 AD and hidden high in the Rila mountains.

Within 20-30 minutes drive there is the highly regarded Ihtiman golf course, the nearby towns of Kostenets and Samokov, with facilities for shopping and eating out, a private airfield offering light aircraft flights over the area for about £40. and boating facilities on the very beautiful and impressive Lake Iskar.

The lively local town of Samokov is only 6km away on a straight road. The town has a large, modern supermarket, selling all the food and household products that you would need. There is an excellent fresh fruit and vegetable market and there is a choice of restaurants in the town centre, banks with cash points and a post office. A return bus operates from Borovets with fares charged at approx 2 Lev each way which is around about a £1. Alternatively a taxi will cost approx. £5. The town is ideal for shopping and grabbing a bargain.

In the summer there are also may activites as Borovets is very much an all-year round resort, and once the snow melts, visitors can indulge themselves in some fantastic activities. In summer, the surrounding pine forests make an excellent centre for mountain walking and hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. The ski lifts take you to the very peak of the mountain tops for some of the best views in Europe.

- Mount Moussala, Malyovitsa and the seven Rila lakes provide wonderful walks with truly magnificent views.

Travel by airline to Sofia Airport by using one of the various airlines such as Easy Jet, Whizz Air, British Airways and Bulgaria Air.

From the airport you can get a taxi or pre book on line using a reputable company such as BulgarianTransport.com.

You can get a bus from Sofia into Samokov for approx 3 Lev and then another bus from Samokov into Borovets for another 2 Lev.

Once in the village of Borovets you can get around on foot very easily.
