The Sofia/Rila Mountains region
Borovets offers scores of scenic tours, including many ski routes, normally in groups led by experienced guides. The organized trips lead to picturesque spots in the Rila Mountain like the Seven Rila Lakes, peak Malyovitza, peak Moussala, etc.
There are various trips to different tourist attractions throughout Bulgaria - tours to the Rila Monastery in the Rila Mountain, to Melnik with its unique pyramids and famous wines, to Plovdiv - the second biggest city of Bulgaria. You can also visit the palace "Carska Bistrica" which is just 10 minutes walk from the new centre of the resort.
We would also certainly recommend the busy city of Sofia for sightseeing or shopping.
Established at the end of the 19th century as a hunting place for the Bulgarian tzars, Borovets gradually developed into a modern ski resort of high class with many luxury hotels, haute-cuisine restaurants and varied leisure-time entertainment opportunities centred on an excellent network of ski runs and lifts along the slopes of the Rila Mountain.
The slopes of Borovets have permanent snow cover, more than a metre and a half thick, from November to May. The air in Borovets is crystal-clear and totally free of any pollutants while the average temperature during January, the coldest month, is minus 4.6 0C.
Borovets in the summer is a completely different place - Taking a walk on the Rila Mountain is considered the number one summer activity. The signature hiking route to Chernata Skala, commonly known as Black Rock, takes visitors through century-old pine forests, passing flower-covered green meadows and across small picturesque streams.
After the leisurely two-hour trek, you will find there are plenty of places to picnic while admiring the wonderful view. If the four-hour return trip sounds like a bit much then adventurers can go on horseback or by horse drawn carriage. The hiking enthusiast can find a wide range of trails from easy to difficult and all generally well signposted. Borovets in the summer is all about relaxation and taking time out to enjoy a little slice of nature's paradise.

"Excellent accommodation, good amenities...nice and warm !"
We stayed for a week of skiing. The apartment was great, arriving in the early hours we entered a cosy, warm apartment with underfloor heating. Everything was nice and clean, modern and in excellent order. There is a light and airy feeling to the property, and plenty of space for a family of four (teenagers). The beds were really comfortable, and the rooms were made up everyday. We used the complex pool a few times (small charge) and it was a great way to finish after skiing all day. First time we have skiied in Borovets, and compared to more expensive properties we have used in France and Italy it was far more spacious and comfortable. The walk to the gondola is reasonably easy, and just far enough away from the centre to ensure a quiet nights sleep. We also used the recommended Snowdoves, who arranged transfers and the ski school / hire through Snowmasters - they were excellent, really helpful and friendly, good equipment and good instructors.

We stayed in Borovets Gardens from 28th Jan for one week. We had previously stayed the year before so knew what to expect. The apartment is very well kitted out and spacious. It's a self catering apartment although we ate out for virtually every meal. The shower in the apartment was very good and always had plenty of hot water.
There is a pool and sauna on site which is well worth taking advantage of. It is however an extra cost but really isn't that expensive although you may disagree if you're paying for the whole family. I do however see it as a necessity after a full days skiing as it's extremely relaxing before shooting out for a meal and a few beers.
Borovets itself is a nice resort and the apartment is in a good location. I would recommend the Harp bar en route to the central part of the resort! Not having been to other skiing resorts (I learned to ski in Borovets) I cannot compare quality. However I felt Borovets was more than adequate in regards to food, drinking and skiing. You cannot grumble getting dinner and a beer for £9. A pint itself is only £1.30 which of course is half the price of the UK!
Give it a go you won't be disappointed!
